IPOH: Two Chinese nationals were killed and a local driver injured in a crash on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Tapah last night. The accident occurred when their car skidded while attempting to avoid a lorry at KM316.9 (northbound). Tapah police chief Supt Johari Yahya confirmed the incident, stating that the victims, Chong Hong and Yucheng Pan, both 41, died at the scene due to severe head injuries. The driver, Lau Yong Kheng, 56, sustained injuries to his neck, legs, and arms. Initial investigations revealed that the Toyota Vios, travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, lost control after swerving to avoid a lorry that changed lanes abruptly. Authorities are working to locate the lorry driver and review dashcam footage for further evidence. The bodies were sent to Tapah Hospital for post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said rescuers used special equipment to free the trapped victims before handing them over to medical personnel. - Bernama

IPOH, July 15 (Bernama) -- Two Chinese nationals were killed while a local driver was injured after their car skidded while trying to avoid a lorry at KM316.9 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) last night. Tapah police chief Supt Johari Yahya said police were alerted to the incident at 10.30 pm, and the deceased, identified as Chong Hong and Yucheng Pan, both 41, died at the scene due to severe head injuries. The driver of the Toyota Vios, Lau Yong Kheng, 56, sustained injuries to his neck, legs and arms. 'Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle, which was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang in the right lane, had tried to avoid a lorry that changed lanes in front of it, causing the driver to lose control. 'Efforts are ongoing to trace the lorry driver and obtain dashboard camera footage to assist in the investigation,' he said in a statement today. The bodies of the deceased were sent to Tapah Hospital for post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 8.53 pm, and a team from the Tapah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene. He said the victims were found trapped inside the vehicle, and rescuers used special equipment to extricate them before handing them over to Health Ministry personnel and police for further action. -- BERNAMA

TAPAH: Two people were killed and another injured in an accident at Km316.9 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) here last night. Tapah district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the accident involved a Toyota Vios, with three men trapped inside during the 8.30pm incident. "Investigation revealed that the driver was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Penang with two other passengers from China. "At the scene, the car, which was in the right lane, attempted to avoid a lorry that suddenly changed lanes in front of it before losing control. "The driver of the car sustained injuries, while the two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene," he said when contacted today. He added that the post-mortem would be conducted today and urged witnesses of the incident to come forward. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 8.53pm, and a team of firemen was dispatched to the scene. "A 56-year-old driver sustained injuries to his hand, while two other passengers, both Chinese nationals, were pronounced dead at the scene. "The operations commander conducted a size-up and directed personnel to carry out rescue operations using rescue tools to extricate the trapped victims. "The operation was completed at 10.01pm and involved nine firemen from the Tapah station," he said.

IPOH: Two Chinese nationals were killed after the car they were in lost control and crashed near KM317 northbound of the North-South Expressway in Tapah. Tapah OCPD Superintendent Johari Yahya said the two victims, identified as Hong Chong and Pan Yucheng, both 41 and from Guangdong, are believed to have died from serious head injuries following the accident on Monday (July 14) at about 9.35pm. Supt Johari said both victims were passengers in the car driven by Lau Yong Keng, a 56-year-old factory supervisor from Sungai Bakap, Penang. "The driver sustained injuries to his neck and limbs. "Hong, a company manager and Pan, a marketing manager, were pronounced dead on the spot by medical personnel," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 15). "Their bodies have been sent to the Tapah Hospital for post mortem," he said, adding that the front and left part of the car were badly damaged from the crash. Supt Johari said the victims were on their way to Penang from Kuala Lumpur prior to the incident. "The driver, who was driving on the right lane, tried to avoid crashing into the back of a lorry that had switched lanes," he said, adding that the police have obtained dashcam footage from the car. "There has been no arrest made and we are now trying to look for witnesses. "The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act and those with information can contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Zulhafiz Zainuddin at 017-400 6662," he added.

IPOH, July 14 — Police confirmed that the man who was found dead in a ravine in Kampung Batu 23, Jalan Pahang near Tapah Saturday died of injuries from being beaten by a blunt object. Tapah district police chief Supt Johari Yahya said it was based on the results of an autopsy at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital forensics unit in Ipoh this morning 'There were bruises and abrasions on the head, face, chest, back of the body and both hands and the cause of death was multiple blunt trauma from being hit with a blunt weapon,' he said in a statement here tonight, adding that fingerprints were taken to identify the deceased. The body of the man was found in a prone position wearing a white T-shirt with black shorts underneath a 15-metre embankment by the roadside. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and efforts to identify a suspect is underway, he added. He urged those with information about the case to come forward to the nearest police station or to contact the Tapah district police headquarters at 05-4011222. — Bernama
