This stylish Queenslander at Annerley is full of charm

A FRESH lick of paint and some tender love and care has breathed new life into this charming Queenslander. Owner John Anthony bought the two-storey house at 15 Gibson St, Annerley, in 2009, as an investment property. Having grown up locally, he knew the suburb was a great place to buy as it was close to the city. But the home's character was what ultimately enticed him. 'It's a beautiful Queenslander, with the iconic white picket fence,' Mr Anthony said. 'I've given it a good lick of paint, which has really made it come up quite nicely.' The top floor offers three bedrooms, including the main with an ensuite, a bathroom and modern kitchen with a dining area. Traditional features, including leadlight windows and French doors leading to the balcony, have been retained. Downstairs, there is a rumpus room with a kitchenette, three other large rooms and a bathroom. Mr Anthony said the balcony was a standout feature. 'It's got a really nice outlook from the balcony and it has cool breezes through the upper storey once we open up the French doors and windows,' he said. 'It's a very spacious house, as well as being situated on a large property.' The home is close to the city, with cafes, public transport and parks a short walk away.

KGMU to establish data science centre on its campus

Lucknow: King George's Medical University (KGMU) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India Health Action Trust (IHAT) to establish a data science centre on its campus. The centre aims to improve referral systems and disease surveillance, with an initial focus on pregnancy referral analysis and monitoring of measles and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), a rare complication of measles. The MoU was signed by Prof Soniya Nityanand, vice chancellor, KGMU, and John Anthony, senior project director, IHAT-UPTSU. The University of Manitoba, Canada, will provide technical support for the centre, with participation from Dr James Blanchard and Dr Marissa Becker during the ceremony. Prof Nityanand said that the initiative reflects the university's focus on integrating innovation with healthcare systems. The centre is expected to enhance KGMU's capacity in health data analysis and public health planning. "Over time, the centre may broaden its scope to include areas such as urban health, cancer surveillance, and geriatric care," she added. Month set for opening of major American burger chain in Southampton

The opening month for a new restaurant in Southampton has been confirmed as a major American burger chain will open its doors in the city. Wendy's will replace an old clothing shop on Above Bar Street, and a banner placed in the window of the new eatery confirmed hungry residents will not have to wait long to get their hands on famous square burgers. The big red advertisement next door to Specsavers says that the restaurant will be opening in July 2025. This follows news that planning officers gave a further green light to an application to replace fixtures and fittings with fryers at the former John Anthony store in the vacant 17 Above Bar Street. READ MORE: The plans looked to "strip out" the shop and gut an "existing retail shop to fit out" a new "quick reserve restaurant". Construction work was allowed to start after this was approved in at the end of April. As reported by the Echo, Wendy's previously had plans approved to replace the John Anthony white shopfront with a dark grey metal framed entrance way, with red beams and double-glazed automatic doors. (Image: Google Maps) An electronic sign will also be placed in the window of the shopfront between Specsavers and Boots, though this must not be in operation between 11pm and 6am. Chinese restaurant Shanghai Bay - positioned on the first floor of the same building - will be unaffected by the burger shop's arrival, the plans said. READ MORE: Major American fast food chain to open first Southampton restaurant The restaurant chain - which has been serving 'quality burgers' since 1969 - currently only has one eatery in Hampshire, located in Portsmouth. Wendy's is known for serving square burgers that hang over the bun and for its 'Frosty,' which is a frozen dairy dessert similar to a milkshake mixed with whippy ice cream. The chain returned to the UK in June 2021 by opening a store in Reading, citing that there was "a gap in the category" of fresh-made, affordably priced burgers. Wendy's also serves breakfast burgers, such as the 704-calorie "Breakfast Baconator" - a sausage and egg muffin with double cheese, double bacon and "signature" cheese sauce.
