Gordi Shares 'Head Rush' From Soon To Be Released Album 'Like Plasticine'

16 July 2025 RETURNS TO US TV FOR CBS SATURDAY IN NYC ADDED TO HINTERLAND FESTIVAL ALONGSIDE LANA DEL REY & TYLER, THE CREATOR SHARES ONE FINAL CUT FROM LIKE PLASTICINE, WITH OFFICIAL VIDEO DIRECTED BY MADELEINE PURDY CURRENTLY ON TOUR IN EUROPE WITH FOSTER THE PEOPLE NEW PURPLE VINYL COLOURWAY NOW ON-SALE With just over three weeks to go to the release of her third album Like Plasticine, Australian indie-pop singer, songwriter and producer, Gordi, shares one final taste of the record with the John Congleton co-produced 'Head Rush', and announces a new purple vinyl colourway, available now via her online store. The single follows her recent back to back appearances on US television. In addition to a performance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in June, Gordi recently took time out of her hectic schedule to perform three songs for CBS Mornings, including 'Peripheral Lover' as well as a special version of 'Lunch At Dune' with acclaimed violinist Rob Moose (Taylor Swift, Bon Iver). Earlier in the month, she dropped into KEXP in Seattle for a set live on air, featuring Bon Iver's S. Carey in her band – the KEXP session video will follow shortly after her album release. Last week Gordi was also announced as a late addition to Hinterland Festival in Iowa, featuring headliners Lana Del Rey and Tyler, The Creator. Currently touring Europe with Foster The People, Gordi will return to the UK and Europe later in the year for the Bryce Dessner curated Sounds From A Safe Harbour Festival and Residency in Cork Ireland, along with Reeperbahn Festival in Germany and a run of headline dates. Written by Gordi and produced alongside John Congleton, new song 'Head Rush' is fast-paced, intoxicating hit to the senses. "I was sitting at my friend, Sarah's, Wurlitzer in Los Angeles, playing the same thing over and over again and then Head Rush arrived. It was one of those songs that came in a flurry of words out of my mouth quicker than I could write them down. I was thinking about New York, a place where I've spent a lot of time over the years, where my friend used to live in a rundown place on Division St. Head Rush is about how everything comes to an end eventually. About having to grow up before you're ready. That transition from reckless ecstasy to stability. From chaos to plans. 'I finished this song with John Congleton in LA - we worked at a feverish pace, which was a perfect match for the energy of the song. You've gotta turn the last part up real loud." - Gordi The song comes with a video from Gordi's long-time collaborator Madeleine Purdy; an abstract visual diary of Gordi's musings on the chaos of New York and the accompanying emotional symbolism. Purdyreflects on the power of simplicity, saying,'With this video I just wanted to make it feel joyful and unceremonious. Casual and off the cuff.' 'Head Rush' lands on the heel of a string of cuts from the album, beginning with 'Lunch At Dune' from Gordi's EP of the same name last year and quickly followed up with 'Alien Cowboy', 'Peripheral Lover', 'Cutting Room Floor', 'PVC Divide' (feat. Anaïs Mitchell) and album opener 'GD (Goddamn)'. Songs from the album have solidified Gordi's global footprint, drawing acclaim from The Guardian, NPR, Stereogum, Rolling Stone, Dork and more, with radio love from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6, Radio X, and major AAA stations in the US including KEXP, KCRW, and Sirius XM. Not to mention two billboards in Times Square - one for Spotify's GLOW, and another for Amazon Music's PROUD. Like Plasticine chronicles the last few transformative years of Gordi's life. From coming out and having to adjust the vision of her future, to working as a doctor on the frontline during the pandemic, Gordi explores the beauty, heartbreak and finite nature of human experience across 12 new songs. Like Plasticine is out August 8 via Mushroom Music. MORE ABOUT GORDI… An award-winning and beloved Aussie export with tens of millions of streams to her name across DSPs, Gordi has an impressive catalogue and history behind her, including two full-length album releases and collaborations with Troye Sivan, Bon Iver, Ben Bohmer, Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and more. The documentation of her journey through self-discovery, sexuality and identity shines through on albums Reservoir and Our Two Skins, the latter of which was recognised with an AIR Award and nominated for an ARIA and two J Awards. Debbie Harry turns 80: what next for Blondie?

Why is Debbie Harry in the headlines? The pop icon and Blondie singer has just turned 80. She is now the same age as Rod Stewart, 12 months behind Mick Jagger and just ahead of Dolly Parton, Bette Middler and Neil Young. How does she feel about reaching that milestone? Conflicted, judging by a recent interview in Vanity Fair. Harry said she had been affected by the death of Blondie drummer Clem Burke in April. 'What is this space I live in now? I'm curing – I'm doing a cure,' she said, meaning that she was taking stock and working out what she wants at this stage in life. 'And part of that is decluttering up my space, which is crowded with that life. I need to get some breath, get some air in there.' So that's the end of Blondie? Not quite: the band have a new album on the way – though, following Burke's death, it is unclear if they will tour again. The record is to be produced by John Congleton, a well-known figure in alternative music who has worked with St Vincent and Mogwai. [ Rock of ages: The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Debbie Harry and 12 other classic acts still going strong Opens in new window ] Any idea what we can expect? With no new music released, it's still a guessing game. However, their last LP, 2017's Pollinator , featured contributions from Joan Jett, Johnny Marr of The Smiths and a pre-Brat Charli XCX. So fans can look forward to something exciting and boundary-breaking – elevated, as ever, by Harry's hard-as-diamond, soft-as-featherdown vocals. In the 1970s and early 1980s they broke boundaries in numerous ways. The group emerged from the downtown New York punk movement, yet hits such as Sunday Girl, Hanging on the Telephone, and Atomic had a pop sheen. They also helped put a spotlight on the rap scene bubbling up in Harlem by incorporating elements of hip-hop into their 1980 song Rapture. Punk roots: Debbie Harry with Blondie in Amsterdam, November 1977. Photograph: Gie Knaeps/Getty What happened then? By 1981, they had been on the road quite a while and tensions were rising. Their sixth album, The Hunter, was regarded as a disappointment. Plus, because they weren't selling all that many records, they were under financial strain. More seriously, guitarist Chris Stein – Harry's then romantic partner – had developed a rare autoimmune condition. He had to take time away to recuperate, and Harry put her career on hold to care for him. However, with Stein having recovered, they reformed in 1997 and achieved success with their comeback single, Maria, which peaked at number three in Ireland in 1999. Why is Harry considered such an important pop star? She was one of the great front people of the 1970s – a fashion icon as well as an influential singer. At a time when the music industry was still weighted against female performers, her take-no-prisoners outlook made her an important role model.

UK Post-Punks SHAME Announce New Album Cutthroat

Shame have announced their return with new album Cutthroat, out 5th September 2025 via Dead Oceans, and have shared the thrilling new video for the album's title track, directed by, featuring the band performing within a motorcycle wall of death. Cutthroat is Shame at their blistering best; an unapologetic new album made with Grammy winning producer John Congleton at the helm. 'It's about the cowards, the cunts, the hypocrites,' says vocalist Charlie Steen. 'Let's face it, there's a lot of them around right now.' Still in their twenties and having proved themselves several times over via legendary live shows and three critically-acclaimed albums, the five childhood friends - Charlie Steen, guitarists Sean Coyle-Smith and Eddie Green, bassist Josh Finerty and drummer Charlie Forbes - went into Cutthroat ready to create a new Ground Zero. 'This is about who we are,' says Steen. 'Our live shows aren't performance art - they're direct, confrontational and raw. That's always been the root of us. We live in crazy times. But it's not about 'Poor me.' It's about 'Fuck you'.' Crucial to this incendiary new outlook was producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen). From their initial meeting, Congleton's no-bullshit approach became a guiding force to streamline the band's ideas. Stamped throughout with Shame's trademark sense of humour, the album takes on the big issues of today and gleefully toys with them. With Trump in the Whitehouse and Shame holed up in Salvation Studios in Brighton, they cast a merciless eye on themes of conflict and corruption; hunger and desire; lust, envy and the omnipresent shadow of cowardice. Musically, too, the record plays with visceral new ideas. Making electronic music on tour for fun, Coyle-Smith had previously seen the loops he was crafting as a separate entity to the things he wrote for Shame. Then, he realised, maybe they didn't have to be. 'This time, anything could go if it sounded good and you got it right,' he says. Cutthroat's first single and title track takes this idea and runs with it into, quite possibly, the best song Shame have ever laid to tape. It's a ball of barely-contained attitude packed into three minutes of indie dancefloor hedonism. It also masterfully introduces the lyrical outlook of the record: one where cocksure arrogance and deep insecurity are two sides of the same coin. 'I was reading a lot of Oscar Wilde plays where everything was about paradox,' Steen explains. 'In 'Cutthroat', it's that whole idea from Lady Windermere's Fan, 'Life's far too important to be taken seriously'.' This cheeky self-awareness, too, is important. As much as Shame want to burst the bubbles of bluster and ego, encouraging us to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, 'He who casts the first stone…', they also understand that, at its heart, life is often ridiculous. The result is an album that revels in the idiosyncrasies of life, raising an eyebrow and asking the ugly questions that so often get tactfully brushed over. But the one answer that Cutthroat gives with a resounding flourish is that, right now, Shame have never sounded better.

Get shame Tickets Here The band expanded on that attitude in a longer joint statement, hinting at a restless drive beneath the record's surface. 'It's driven by hunger,' they said. 'Hunger for something better. For something you've been told you don't deserve. It's primal. It's raw. It's unapologetic. It's the person who turns up to the party uninvited. 'Cause when you've been pushed down, there's nowhere to go but up. When you ain't got nothing, you ain't got nothing to lose.' To that end, Steen likened the album to the band's live performances. 'This is about who we are,' he said. 'Our live shows aren't performance art — they're direct, confrontational and raw. That's always been the root of us. We live in crazy times. But it's not about 'Poor me.' It's about 'Fuck you.'' The lead single, 'Cutthroat,' is built around a driving arrangement with a psychedelic tint, and introduces the album's conflation of arrogance and insecurity. In a statement, Steen said, 'I was reading a lot of Oscar Wilde plays where everything was about paradox. In 'Cutthroat,' it's that whole idea from Lady Windermere's Fan, 'Life's far too important to be taken seriously.'' 'Cutthroat' arrives with a music video directed by Ja Humby. Watch it below.
