SEC, ACC programs still hot after Auburn WR commitment Denairius Gray
John Garcia, Jr. More than 16 months have come and gone since Denairius Gray came off the board with an early commitment to Auburn football. The Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna standout wide receiver has continued to collect scholarship offers and increased interest from several other programs since, but the messaging coming from The Plains remains the same. Advertisement "It's the same thing, they stay showing love," Gray told Rivals. "They're getting receivers, they're working over there. It's the same message that got me committed. "They just reinforce it." Fellow South Florida native and AU wide receivers coach Marcus Davis has led the Tiger charge for Gray from the beginning. He remains a key factor in how long and steady the four-star has been with the program. "Me and Coach Davis are locked in," he said. "We've got a real good relationship. We talk all the time, real often." Still, Gray contends that a handful of programs remain in steady communication with him. Washington hosted him for an official visit in late April while Ole Miss and NC State are also likely to get him on campus. Advertisement The only date Gray mentioned, however, is a return to Auburn the weekend of June 13. While a full summer schedule still appears to be determined, the top 100 prospect wrapped up his final spring season at state power CMHS, looking to defend yet another state title in 2025. Advertisement "Being here makes me a better player and person," Gray said. "Even in the classroom, for sure. My catching, route-running and technique has gotten better. "The little things really matter here." Marcus Benjamin contributed to this report.

Elite DB Devin Jackson ready for national official visit slate
John Garcia, Jr. The official visit slate for elite defensive back Devin Jackson has seen some change. The Orlando (Fla.) The First Academy two-way talent tells Rivals he will now kick off his slate with LSU on May 30. Miami is next on June 6 before Oregon on June 13 and Nebraska on June 20. Advertisement The four programs aren't an official top group, but could be considered among the primary contenders along with others pushing to be added to his itinerary like Florida, Texas A&M and Georgia. A verbal commitment is to be expected sometime between the summer visits and the kickoff game currently set for August 15. "I don't have any timeline," Jackson said. "But maybe for the IMG game or something like that." The four-star talent was most recently at Oregon and the Ducks are to be considered a mainstay on his list moving forward. "Just their process, plus the background," he said. "Coach (Dan) Lanning and Coach Tosh (Lupoi) were at Alabama, the head coach is a defensive guy. They also develop and send defensive backs to the league." "Defense, it's like DBU," he said. "They send guys to the league about every year. Then Coach (Corey) Raymond and Coach (Jake) Olsen, those guys are developers." The Hurricanes are relatively close to home but are among the newest programs on the offer list. A trip to Coral Gables is under his belt and he will be back next month. Advertisement "Miami is the hometown team," Jackson said. "Coach Will Harris is there, he has been my guy since he was at Florida. Even though he left he is still applying pressure to get me to The U." Nebraska has been involved for the bulk of this recruitment. Matt Rhule's program has already hosted the Floridian on multiple occasions, too. "Coach Addison (Williams) is real," Jackson said. "And going up there, you wouldn't think too much of it, but I love it up there. The facilities, just everything. It's a great place to be."

Versatile Florida DB D'Montae Tims decommitts from Missouri
John Garcia, Jr. One of the Sunshine State's offseason risers is back on the market. Seffner (Fla.) Armwood secondary prospect D'Montae Tims is no longer committed to the Missouri Tigers. "I'm decommitting today," he told Rivals. "I'm just reopening my my options." Advertisement Tims collected several scholarship offers into the New Year and initially pledged to the Tigers in early April. He says the program will remain among those under consideration moving forward. In the meantime, the three-star talent will be in the Peach State over the weekend, expected to visit both Georgia and Georgia Tech while in the area. The rising-senior, who helped Armwood High to a 12-1 record in 2024, also reports increased interest from programs like Texas A&M, Miami and Florida State, among others. At that time, even, the Floridian had been considering taking visits to other contenders on his growing scholarship offer list. The Tigers will remain in the thick of this one, but the increased contact with SEC and ACC programs closer to home for the Tampa-area standout will also hold his attention. Trips will be taken to most of the newer programs to inquire about him and any resulting offers could play well by the time a final college decision goes down.

North Las Vegas man accused of opening fire on former co-workers week after he was fired
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A North Las Vegas man is accused of opening fire on his former co-workers over a week after he was fired for attacking them at a job site, according to an arrest report. John Garcia, 46, faces several charges, including five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, five counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, and two counts of possession of a gun by a prohibited person, records showed. On April 23, around 9:25 a.m., police responded to the scene near Mountain's Edge and Durango after Garcia's coworkers filed a report against him. When officers arrived, they spoke with the construction site foreman, who said he was working when he saw one of his employees, Garcia, with a bloody lip, police said. Garcia then said '[Expletive] you! I am going to catch you and your family on the street,' the report said. The coworker then said 'Let's handle it now,' and Garcia walked away and the co-worker went back to work, the report said. In the middle of the intersection, a group of employees were talking about another employee who had just bought a firearm. Garcia then asked if the employee really knew how to handle a gun, to which the employee said yes, and Garcia responded, 'We are about to find out,' according to the arrest report. Garcia and the employee began to exchange words, and at some point, Garcia punched his co-worker, resulting in the co-worker hitting him back. The other employees broke up the fight and Garcia walked to his truck, got in, and began to drive toward the group of employees. Garcia stopped short of the curb, got out, pulled out a knife and lunged toward his coworkers, the report said. All four of his co-workers were able to stay away from him, and Garcia ultimately gave up and drove away, police said. Due to that incident, Garcia was fired, and the job site was shut down for the day. After that incident, Garcia went to another job site near Elkhorn and Bradley, where he made threats to his co-workers and their families before performing a tire burnout in the intersection, according to police. Garcia was then involved in a hit-and-run crash where he left the scene without checking on the other vehicle, police said. Garcia's co-workers said they were aware of his violent past with Las Vegas paving and other incidents, according to the report. Over a week later on May 2, surveillance footage showed a dark-colored pickup truck drive up to the construction zone, followed by loud gunshots. The employees in the video scattered and one employee used a handgun to fire back at the truck, police said. Police later arrested Garcia in his black pickup truck and discovered that he had a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Police said it appeared that Garcia spilled beer on his clothing and found a can of Budweiser in his truck. Police also found an AR-15 inside the truck, according to the report. Garcia told police that his actions were because his family was 'hurting/struggling' and that his shortcomings were because of gambling and living a bad life, while his work hours were continuously being cut. He also told police that his co-workers were 'yapping all the time' and giving him a hard time, the report said. Garcia said he was glad the incident wasn't more serious, but he didn't know what else to do, stating 'I messed up,' police said. According to the arrest report, Garcia's wife told police that he was upset about losing his job and rationalized his anger due to being teased on the job site for the complexion of his skin and his inability to speak Spanish. Garcia is a two-time convicted felon out of Nevada with convictions from 1995 and 2023 for burglary and attempting to own a firearm by a prohibited person. Garcia was taken to the Clark County Detention Center and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 20, records showed. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
