The top 10 aliens on screen ranked — from The Blob to ET
R emember the gruesome, acid-for-blood extraterrestrial nasty in Alien? The one that burst out of John Hurt's chest in the middle of a convivial dinner aboard the Nostromo? Well the xenomorph is back and this time on TV — specifically in Alien: Earth on Disney+ (from Wednesday) and now crash-landed on Earth. This cannot be good news for earthlings, but the series is an ambitious and intelligent extension of the franchise. In the pantheon of aliens that have visited Earth (on screen, that is), the xenomorph is a particularly horrifying one, but as many have been friendly as have been hostile, as my personal pick of ten from the movies (not TV, so no Mork) suggests. You may wish to suggest others, of course, but remember, aliens on Earth only.

Alien: Earth cast reveal which classic Alien film characters they'd like to see appear in the TV series
The cast of Alien: Earth, the upcoming eight-episode series from Fargo creator Noah Hawley, have shared their hopes for potential crossovers with characters from the original Alien films. Set in 2120, just two years before the events of Alien, the new series introduces viewers to synthetic hybrids, cyborgs, and entirely new alien breeds with unfamiliar life cycles. With this timeline overlap, fans have speculated about possible appearances by legacy characters from the franchise. While Hawley did not confirm any such plans, he acknowledged the possibility. 'Is it plausible that the show might end up reaching the moment in which the movie begins and going beyond it? I think that's certainly plausible,' he said. Among the cast, Babou Ceesay — who portrays cyborg Morrow — expressed interest in seeing Ian Holm's character Ash return. 'Ash is stuck in my psyche,' he said, imagining a scene where Ash confronts Timothy Olyphant's synth character, Kirsh. Olyphant responded jokingly: 'Take it easy! It took an ugly turn there.' Alex Lawther, who plays Hermit, chose John Hurt's Kane. 'Just to spend some time with John Hurt, and apparently go out drinking with John Hurt. In Thailand,' he said. He also mentioned Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, saying, 'He can bring Sigourney along!' Alien: Earth premieres on Hulu in the US on August 12 and on Disney+ in the UK on August 13.
