A loan move to Girona may beckon for a talented young Manchester City centre-back
One player who could shine for Manchester City if given the opportunity next season is young centre-back Vitor Reis. The young Brazilian defender has shown snippets of his quality since signing for the club during the January transfer window. But heading into the 25/26 season Pep Guardiola's squad is loaded with centre-backs. If players such as John Stones, Nathan Ake or Manuel Akanji don't leave the club this summer it's hard to see how Vitor Reis will be given opportunities to play next season. Now it has been reported that Girona are eager to sign Vitor Reis on loan for next season. That could be the ideal setting for Reis to play regular first-team football in La Liga in a bid to further his development for a long career at Manchester City. Multiple reports indicate that Girona are interested in signing Vitor Reis on loan. Spanish reporter Nil Solà has reported that Girona are eager to bring Vitor Reis to the club on loan for next season. Furthermore, Solà reports that Vitor Reis' strong aerial ability and his ball-playing prowess make him an ideal signing for Girona. Lastly, Solà reports that Vitor Reis is reportedly keen on a move to Girona. There may not be opportunities for Vitor Reis to play regularly at Manchester City next season. Looking at Pep Guardiola's squad it is stacked with centre-backs. Currently, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Manuel Akanji, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are in the City squad. It is hard to see Manchester City entering next season with 7 centre-backs. Although, based on City's defensive injuries last season perhaps that number isn't enough. Unless a centre-back or two are sold it's hard to see where Vitor Reis will get minutes next season. He'd likely spend next season on the periphery of Pep Guardiola's squad. Based on that fact a loan move to Girona could prove to be the ideal move for Reis. He can play at a high level while he develops as a player. That move could set him up for a long and prosperous career at Manchester City. With his obvious talent, physical attributes and potential there is little doubt that Vitor Reis will make the grade at City. He will likely benefit from a season playing in La Liga. That way he can hone his craft before potentially kicking on as a City player next season. Girona appear eager to sign Vitor Reis on loan for the 25/26 season. Looking at what may be best for his development that may be the better move for the young Brazilians career.

Manuel Akanji's Manchester City future takes fresh twist as salary enquiry launched
Manchester City could yet be bidding farewell to one of their Treble-winning season stars as Manuel Akanji is now the subject of concrete transfer interest from Turkey. Akanji's standing at Manchester City has come under scrutiny following a 2024/25 campaign that exposed cracks in the squad's defensive reliability — and now interest from abroad may be signalling the start of a somewhat unexpected departure. The Swiss international has remained a consistent figure under Pep Guardiola since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, but his future is now far from guaranteed as the club considers changes in defence. With doubts already emerging over the long-term role of John Stones due to persistent injuries, and Vitor Reis potentially heading out on loan after arriving from Palmeiras in January, Akanji's possible exit would represent a notable shift in central defensive outlook. The club are not actively pushing the 29-year-old out this summer, but they are open to serious offers, as is the case with most players during the ongoing market given Guardiola's desire to trim down his squad numbers. Galatasaray have emerged as a credible destination in recent days, with fresh claims from Turkey suggesting the Istanbul-based giants are prepared to explore a deal, having already been linked with other City names including İlkay Gündoğan and Ederson. Now, according to the information of Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Galatasaray have inquired about the conditions of a potential deal to sign Manchester City's versatile central defender Akanji this summer. It is explained that should the Switzerland international defender agree to a salary reduction in order to join the Turkish Super Lig giants, then the club will in turn make an official offer to Manchester City officials. Akanji remains under contract at the Etihad until 2027, meaning Manchester City retain control of the situation and are unlikely to sanction a cut-price deal, particularly with the new Premier League season looming. However, there is a growing sense that Pep Guardiola's coaching staff are preparing to evolve their defensive core, with Josko Gvardiol pushing for more minutes centrally, and the possibility of a new right-back altering Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis' roles. It remains to be seen whether Akanji would be open to such a move, and while Galatasaray offer regular European football and a significant role, the financial compromise required on salary could prove a decisive obstacle.

John Stones heads list of SIX stars made available by Man City in summer clearout
Manchester City and England defender John Stones is among a number of players who could be moved on by the former Premier League champions in the summer transfer window Manchester City are prepared to sanction exits for a handful of established stars this summer including the likes of John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan as Pep Guardiola continues to reshape his playing squad. The former Premier League champions have been active both this summer and in the January transfer window after falling behind Liverpool and Arsenal in the title race last season. And while further incomings are possible, a number of exits are also expected. Guardiola is understood to want to work with a smaller squad and, as such, some big names could be on the move this summer. Among them, The Athletic say, is Stones, who has been a pivotal player for Manchester City during a period of sustained success for the club. But the England defender, 31, is said to be available for transfer this summer as City move forward into a new era. Gundogan, 34, is another household name who could be culled despite the fact he only returned to The Etihad last summer following a 12 month stint at Barcelona. The veteran midfielder joins Mateo Kovacic in being 'touted' as a potential departee with the club looking to trim their squad. Nico O'Reilly, Claudio Echeverri and Oscar Bobb are the three other players who said to be in the same boat as their team-mates, though the same report adds Bobb is unlikely to leave The Etihad this summer. It's also noted that some could leave on loan rather than permanently. O'Reilly, 20, would be a surprise sale if he were to depart after making a significant impact during the latter half of the 2024-25 campaign while playing as a makeshift left-back. Of the names listed, Stones would be the biggest departure after making over 270 appearances for City since joining the club from Everton all the way back in 2016. Despite his status as a key member of Guardiola's squad in years gone by, Stones was plagued by injuries last term and restricted to just 11 appearances in the Premier League. Abdukodir Khusanov was signed from Lens in January to add more depth to a defensive unit which had previously helped steer City to four consecutive domestic titles.
