What are the red bus lanes in Pittsburgh? Here's what you need to know.

Red bus lanes are popping up in parts of Pittsburgh, and enforcement is underway. These new red lanes are for buses and emergency vehicles only. The exception is the striped parts in turning lanes. Starting on Friday, any driver stopped in the red lanes will be warned. After that, a driver will be ticketed. A ticket will run you $173. If you park in a red bus lane, your vehicle will be ticketed and towed. "It's convenient for people taking the bus, but what about the people who aren't?" John Thomas said This isn't a Pittsburgh problem. It's an issue everywhere. One woman KDKA spoke to on Friday is from Philadelphia. "A lot of people out here drive. I know we're in the city, but we need to make space for the drivers as well," Denim said. However, riders of the bus have a different perspective. "You'll see people in every neighborhood, they just stop wherever they want to instead of pulling aside. I think the bus needs to get where they're going," Denise said. Right now, it is the verbal enforcement period. But in the coming weeks, there will be actual enforcement.

Connect Airlines eyes Pittsburgh as potential regional hub, aims to revive premium air travel

A startup airline looking to return a throwback but premium and high-tech style of regional air travel has its sights on perhaps using Pittsburgh International Airport as a regional hub in the future sometime after it gets off the ground. Connect Airlines CEO John Thomas told a panel Wednesday at the FTE Future Travel Experience conference at Carnegie Mellon University that Pittsburgh was in the airline's plans for carrying business and connecting travelers. The startup aims to use more spacious and better appointed turboprop aircraft instead of the noisy, cramped regional jets common on short- and medium-haul routes. Connect's initial strategy,if approved for airline certification, is to fly three daily flights a day from downtown Toronto's Billy Bishop Airport to Philadelphia International Airport and Chicago-O'Hare International Airport. It hopes to begin in a few months, although the airline has been in development for several years. Click here to read more from our partners at the Pittsburgh Business Times. Visas reinstated for all University of Arkansas' international students who had status revoked

University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (Courtesy photo) All five international students at the University of Arkansas who had their visa status revoked last month have been reinstated, a university spokesperson confirmed Thursday. At least 1,024 students at 160 colleges, universities and university systems had their visas revoked or their legal status terminated in March and April, according to a review by The Associated Press. The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is a database used to track and monitor schools, exchange visitor programs and certain designations of nonimmigrants while they study in the U.S. education system, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The terminations of records in the database were challenged in more than 70 lawsuits across the country. The federal government reversed course on Friday, April 25, when a government attorney announced in a hearing that students' terminated records would be restored while the government adopts a formal policy for revoking records in SEVIS. John Thomas, the UA's director of media relations and core communications, said Thursday that all five students who had their SEVIS records terminated have now been restored to active status. 'We learned that the students' SEVIS records had been reinstated over the course of a few days starting last week,' Thomas said. UA officials have not identified the students or stated why their status was revoked. The university had 1,214 foreign students as of April 25, according to a Spring 2025 enrollment report. An internal memo filed in court by the Justice Department Monday indicates an expansion of power for ICE regarding international students' legal status, NBC News reported. The memo to all Student and Exchange Visitor Program personnel shows an expanded list of criteria for ICE to terminate international students' status. According to the document, visa revocation would now be grounds for terminating students' status. SUBSCRIBE: GET THE MORNING HEADLINES DELIVERED TO YOUR INBOX

2 University of Arkansas students regain visa status after DHS termination

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Records have been restored for two of the five international students at the University of Arkansas whose visas were terminated by the Department of Homeland Security earlier this month. According to UofA spokesperson John Thomas, the DHS terminated the Students' Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records for five students around April 11. International students on F-1 visas must prove financial support and stay in good academic standing, according to the Associated Press. More than 70 percent of Arkansans don't have REAL IDs. Can they still fly after the May deadline? After arriving in the U.S., their status is managed by Homeland Security. If their SEVIS record is revoked, they must leave immediately, whereas previously, they could finish their studies before leaving. On April 25, Thomas confirmed that at least two of the five students had their records reinstated. The cause of the terminations and the identities of the reinstated students remain unclear, and the university has not released further details. 'We will continue to monitor the situation,' Thomas told KNWA/ 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
