Pembrokeshire business wins awards at National Arts Awards

A Pembrokeshire business has been recognised with two awards at the National Arts Awards. Milford Haven Port Authority was celebrated at the Arts & Business Cymru Awards for its collaborations with two local arts charities. The awards recognised these partnerships for their ingenuity, influence, and dedication to the community. The ceremony was held at the ICC in Newport and was attended by businesses and arts organisations from across Wales. The evening was hosted by many famous faces from stage, screen and sports, including BAFTA Cymru winner Mark Lewis Jones, Olympic silver medal winner Colin Jackson and BBC Radio Wales presenter Huw Stephens. A highlight of the evening was the victory of Johnathan Chitty, chief financial officer of Milford Haven Port Authority and treasurer of SPAN Arts, who was named Adviser of the Year. Mr Chitty was instrumental in developing SPAN's five-year strategy, which resulted in the organisation attaining Portfolio status with the Arts Council of Wales for the first time in its 30-year history. Mr Chitty said: "I was truly humbled to win this award, as the real winner of the award is not me but the whole team at SPAN. "The staff team at SPAN have truly inspired me through the impact they have in our communities, along with the brilliant creative collaborators and wonderful volunteers." The Port Authority was also acknowledged for its partnership with the Torch Theatre, winning the Arts, Business and Community category. This award was for their efforts to promote arts engagement in West Wales. Their combined efforts, focusing on wellbeing and long-term goals for young people, have provided arts opportunities to more than 5,000 pupils across the region. The awards ceremony serves to acknowledge the critical role partnerships play in supporting Wales' cultural landscape, demonstrating that when arts and business come together, rural communities flourish. Their collaboration highlights Pembrokeshire as a vibrant, creative, and culturally rich region in Wales.
