HARRY POTTER Live-Action Series Casts Draco, Lucius, Molly Weasley, and More — GeekTyrant
The HBO Harry Potter series continues to build out its roster of witches, wizards, and Muggles, with Warner Bros. Discovery revealing a fresh wave of casting that includes some major names from Hogwarts lore. If you've been wondering who's going to bring the iconic Malfoys or the beloved Molly Weasley to life, we've got the casting news for you. Lox Pratt will take on the role of Draco Malfoy, the smirking Slytherin who becomes Harry's schoolyard rival and eventual frenemy. A relative newcomer, Pratt is stepping into a character with decades of baggage. His onscreen father, Lucius Malfoy, will be played by Johnny Flynn ( Emma, One Life, Lovesick ), whose icy charm and intensity feel tailor-made for the role of Voldemort's well-coiffed supporter. Rounding out the Weasley household, Katherine Parkinson of The IT Crowd is set to play Molly Weasley. Between her comedic timing and maternal warmth, Parkinson seems like a perfect fit to play the fiercely loving matriarch of the redheaded family. Other new faces include Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown. Bertie Carvel ( The Crown ) is also joining the cast as Cornelius Fudge, the often-blundering Minister of Magic who has a real talent for denial, especially when it comes to Voldemort. This group joins the already announced leads: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The supporting cast is shaping up to be impressively stacked, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Filch. HBO has described the series as a 'decade-long' project, with each season adapting one book from J.K. Rowling's bestselling series. 'We are excited to explore every corner of the wizarding world, each season offering new and existing audiences a chance to experience these beloved stories in a deeper way,' the studio said in its announcement. The show is being written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner ( Killing Eve, Succession ), who also serves as showrunner. She's joined by director Mark Mylod ( Game of Thrones, The Last of Us ), Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and longtime franchise producer David Heyman.
