JPJ seizes 270 luxury vehicles without road tax, insurance coverage through Ops Luxury
JOHOR BARU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized 270 luxury vehicles nationwide for not having valid road tax and insurance under Ops Luxury, carried out since July 1. Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the operation is being carried out continuously across all states to take firm action against luxury vehicles being driven without a valid motor vehicle licence (LKM) or insurance. "This operation is a stern measure against luxury vehicles that are being driven without paying road tax, with some also without insurance coverage. The vehicles will be detained and seized until the owners settle all outstanding road tax, insurance, and summonses before they are released," he told a press conference at JPJ Taman Daya recently. Also present were JPJ senior director (Enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan and Johor JPJ director Azmil Zainal Adnan. Aedy said the seized vehicles included a Ferrari in Johor Bahru, which was without road tax and insurance, a Lamborghini Huracán with an annual road tax of RM12,000, and a Rolls-Royce in Kuala Lumpur with unpaid road tax of RM29,000 per year. He revealed that some of the vehicles had not had their road tax renewed for more than a year, with one case in Kuala Lumpur involving a lapse of up to three years, where the owner claimed to have "forgotten" to renew it. "Ops Luxury will be expanded nationwide, including to Perlis, Sabah, and Sarawak. This is not a one-off action, but a continuous effort. "We do not want luxury vehicles on the road without valid road tax and insurance, as the risks to public safety in the event of an accident are extremely high," he said. Aedy added that legal action has been taken against several vehicle owners in court, while those who have settled their road tax and insurance arrears have been allowed to reclaim their vehicles. — BERNAMA

Singaporean e-hailing vehicles detained in Johor for illegal operations
JOHOR BAHRU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has detained and seized four e-hailing vehicles registered in Singapore driven by citizens of the republic for carrying passengers without a valid permit through the Special Op for Foreign Vehicle E-Hailing around the city since August 9. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the vehicles involved, namely a Toyota Alphard, Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Hiace and Honda Spada, each driven by a citizen of the republic, were detected carrying passengers from Singapore and other countries entering Malaysia via the Singapore route for tourism purposes. 'The results of the inspection found that the vehicles involved did not have a valid operator's license, were not registered as public service vehicles and did not have Malaysian road tax,' he said at a press conference at JPJ Taman Daya here, last night. According to him, all the vehicles were detained and seized under Section 80 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (APAD 2010) and are being investigated under Section 16(1) of the same act for operating public service vehicles without a valid operator's license. 'There will be no more compromises for any illegal e-hailing vehicles operating in Malaysia. We will take this action to court for the process of confiscating the vehicle,' he said. Also present were JPJ senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan and Johor JPJ director Azmil Zainal Adnan. Aedy said initial investigations found that the drivers involved were promoting their services via social media, WhatsApp and Telegram applications, as well as stickers on vehicles, with travel charges much higher than the permitted rates. He gave an example of Singapore-Johor Bahru travel charges reaching S$180 (RM591) per person for one trip, while trips to Ipoh were recorded at up to S$1,200 (RM3,946) for one trip. 'This operation is being carried out continuously to combat irresponsible parties from continuing to take advantage, besides ensuring the safety of passengers and the integrity of the country's transport system is maintained,' he said, adding that the same operation will be expanded to other states. The public who have information about this activity are urged to channel it through the MyJPJ e-Aduan application or email to aduantrafik@ - Bernama

Over 42,000 Singapore VEP tags inactive as full enforcement begins
JOHOR BAHRU: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) revealed that 42,416 Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tags for Singapore-registered private vehicles remain unactivated as of June 29, despite full enforcement kicking off today. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli stated that out of 248,504 VEP RFID tags issued to individual private vehicles, only 206,088 (82.93 per cent) have been activated. Meanwhile, all 3,765 tags for company-owned vehicles are active. 'Pre-registration applications for company vehicles stand at 19,690,' he said during a press conference near the Sultan Iskandar Building. Johor JPJ director Azmil Zainal Adnan was also present. Enforcement began at 12.01 am today, targeting Singaporean vehicles without registered or activated VEP tags. Aedy Fadly confirmed that 55 JPJ personnel were deployed, focusing solely on unregistered foreign vehicles for now. Owners failing to activate their VEP tags face a RM300 fine under Section 66H(7) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and will be barred from leaving Malaysia until payment and activation are completed. 'Mobile units are available at enforcement points to assist with immediate tag activation and fine settlements,' he added. For now, enforcement will be periodic in Johor's high-traffic zones before expanding nationwide. Aedy Fadly urged Singaporean motorists to comply to avoid disruptions. The 24-hour VEP centre in Danga Bay remains operational for last-minute registrations. Singaporean worker Muhammad Zulhadis Zulkeplie, 37, shared that he applied in mid-May but is still awaiting confirmation. 'I advise others to follow procedures and seek guidance if unsure,' he said while settling his fine at a JPJ mobile unit.
