The 59-year-old will assume command of the relevant NATO headquarters, the "Allied Joint Force Command," in Brunssum, the Netherlands, from Italian General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta at noon. Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, deterring and defending the eastern part of the alliance area has once again become a core task for NATO states. Recently, warnings that Russia could test NATO's commitment to mutual defense have become more forceful. One of the three operational NATO headquarters is located in Brunssum. The other two are in Naples and Norfolk, Virginia, and are led by Americans. Gerhartz was promoted to four-star general before assuming his new position.

Al-Sudani received NATO Joint Force Command Chief in Munich

Baghdad-INA Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received today, Friday, Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, Commander of NATO's Joint Force Command, at his residence in Munich. The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA):"The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation with NATO in the areas of training, intelligence coordination, and logistical support, in line with the outcomes of the NATO Commander's recent visit to Iraq both sides also emphasized the importance of continuing high-level security dialogue in preparation for a bilateral meeting to be held in Baghdad later this year." Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed ,"the significance of cooperation with NATO in light of the long-standing partnership, particularly through its advisory role in counter terrorism efforts and the development and training of Iraqi security forces, contributing to Iraq's overall security and stability." For his part, Admiral Munsch underscored the importance of the bilateral relationship in advisory and training efforts, commending the remarkable progress made by Iraqi forces in addressing challenges and maintaining security.
