Over 50% engineering seats still vacant in MP after two rounds of counselling

Indore: Despite two rounds of centralised counselling, more than half of the engineering seats in Madhya Pradesh are remain vacant, with only 32,700 students admitted so far out of a total of 73,525 seats available across the state. However, directorate of technical education (DTE) claims this year's response is comparatively better, with nearly 10,000 more admissions recorded than at the same stage last year. This is the first time in recent years that DTE began its engineering admissions as early as May. The registrations for the first round began on May 27. The second round of counselling opened for registration between July 5 and 12. The merit list was released on July 17, followed by allotment letters from July 21 to 25. Students were allowed to complete the admission formalities until July 28. Those admitted were eligible for internal branch sliding within their colleges till July 31. The next phase, college level counselling (CLC), will begin on Aug 2 and continue till Aug 5, with admission closing on Aug 6. If seats remain vacant, a second and third CLC round will follow on Aug 7 and Aug 12, respectively. Following the allotment, several students rushed to their assigned colleges to confirm admission. Of the total registrations, 31,372 students applied via JEE (Main) scores, and 8,792 through Class 12 marks. So far, 33,371 candidates have been verified, including 5,869 through e-verification. Despite 376 rejections, 21,957 candidates completed choice filling. In Indore, 23 engineering colleges are participating in the centralised counselling process, offering over 15,000 seats. The DTE has structured admissions into two centralised rounds and three CLC rounds.
