Elphaba and Glinda enchant in Wicked: For Good trailer premiere
Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Wicked: For Good, teasing the sequel's emotional storyline. Director Jon M Chu said in an interview that Part 2 focuses on the consequences of choices from the first film. The film will be released on 21 November. 'There's no going back,' says Cynthia Erivo in the trailer for Wicked: For Good Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for one of the year's most anticipated movies. At the time of writing, the clip has over 2.2 million views and counting in just 7 hours. The sequel, which will be released on 21 November, exactly a year after the first, tells the origin story of Elphaba (Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good, played by Ariana Grande, from The Wizard of Oz. Wicked: For Good is an adaptation of the second act of the 2003 stage musical Wicked, which is adapted from Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The second film, which was previously known as Wicked Part 2, was officially titled Wicked: For Good in December last year. In the two-minute clip, Elphaba is shown hiding, preparing to confront the Wizard, as she declares, 'This is between us, the Wizard and I.' Meanwhile, Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) and his squad are seen hunting Elphaba, Glinda is shown getting married, and Dorothy arrives. The clip opens with Erivo's stirring performance of No Good Deed Goes Unpunished and ends with a heartfelt duet of For Good featuring Erivo and Grande. 'Choices are difficult to make, but when you do make those choices, sometimes the result isn't what you expect it to be. It can be lonely; it can be hard.' 'There's a lot of soul searching in movie 2. They're asking, 'Is this the right decision that you made?,' he said. Wicked: Part 1 was a box office hit, grossing US$755m worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing musical film adaptation, according to The Guardian. The film garnered 10 Oscar nominations, winning two for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.

The first full-length trailer for the Wicked sequel offers fans a glimpse of Elphaba's life in exile after flying away to Oz's western lands. Footage from the movie also teases a first look at Dorothy, the protagonist of L Frank Baum's novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz, who is seen walking down the yellow brick road. Advertisement Wicked: For Good will see Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, demonised by those in Oz, and transformed into The Wicked Witch Of The West, as she is known in Baum's novel about the fantastical world. It picks off where the first film left off, covering the years after Elphaba parted ways with her friend, Glinda, played by US pop star Ariana Grande. In the trailer the friends sing the song For Good as the Wizard asks Dorothy and her friends to 'bring me the broom of the Wicked Witch Of The West'. It ends with Elphaba saying 'I'm off to see the Wizard' before flying on a broom into the distance with her winged monkeys. Advertisement The film, directed by Jon M Chu, shows Elphaba continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz's silenced animals while Glinda lives at the palace in Emerald City. The films have been adapted from the musical, which was based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel of the same name – which was in turn based on the story first told in Baum's 1900 children's novel, adapted into the 1939 film starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale. 'Wicked: For Good' Trailer Teases Elphaba's Rage Amid Witch-Hunt And Dorothy's Arrival
The witch-hunt is on, as Emerald City prepares to open its gates again. Universal has debuted the trailer for Wicked: For Good , the follow-up to Jon M. Chu's big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, teasing higher stakes that will put Elphaba and Glinda's friendship to the test, more flying monkeys, a first look at Dorothy, and, of course, plenty of singing. 'Elphaba, they're coming for you,' warns Glinda, played by singer-actor Ariana Grande, midway into the video, which also includes familiar nods to the Wizard of Oz story, like the yellow brick road, and Dorothy and her companions — The Tin Man, The Scarecrow, and The Cowardly Lion. Oh, and the preview of 'For Good' and 'No Good Deed' is bound to delight fans. Picking up after the final scene in the first movie, in which Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba flies through the sky while singing the iconic 'Defying Gravity', Wicked: For Good focuses on the two witches facing the consequences of their previous decisions. Per the official logline, this second part is 'set in the Land of Oz, before and after Dorothy Gale's arrival from Kansas', and will cover the events of the musical's second act, as they 'embrace their new respective identities as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch of the North, and how the consequences of their actions will change all of Oz forever.' Reprising their roles alongside Eviro and Grande are Jonathan Bailey ( Bridgerton ) as Fiyero Tigelaar, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Marissa Bode as Nessarose Thropp, Michelle Yeoh ( Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ) as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum ( Jurassic Park franchise) as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Chu is back in the director's chair, with Marc Platt and David Stone serving as producers. The first Wicked film hit theatres last November, and together with Gladiator II , opened to a combined US$270 million at the global box office. It would go on to earn US$634 million worldwide after six weeks, and is now the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation globally. The stage version is loosely based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' and has remained a Broadway sensation over the years. Wicked: For Good is slated for release on 21 November. Si Jia is a casual geek at heart – or as casual as someone with Sephiroth's theme on her Spotify playlist can get. Wicked: For Good – trailer released for sequel to Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo hit
The first trailer for Wicked: For Good, the sequel to the smash hit musical starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, has been released. The sequel arrives a year after Wicked stormed the global box office, with both films telling the origin stories of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, played by Erivo, and Glinda the Good, played by Grande, from The Wizard of Oz. Wicked: For Good is an adaptation of the second act of the 2003 stage musical Wicked. The musical was based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel of the same name – which was in turn based on the story first told in L Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, adapted into the 1939 film starring Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale. The trailer for Wicked: For Good sees Elphaba in hiding, for her opposition to the Wizard's regime, and also teases the arrival of Dorothy, who famously drops a house on Elphaba in The Wizard of Oz. The actor who will play Dorothy has not yet been named. Director Jon M Chu has said it was 'impossible' to make Wicked into one film 'without doing some real damage to it'. Both films were cut simultaneously in the editing process ahead of the first film's release last year. 'As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but two,' Chu said. Wicked grossed US$755m worldwide on a US$150m budget, becoming the highest-grossing musical film adaptation ever made and landing 10 nominations at the Academy Awards – including best picture – and winning two. Along with Erivo and Grande as the film's main characters, Wicked: For Good also stars Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz. Wicked: For Good will be released in cinemas on 21 November.
