Bayer Leverkusen provide injury updates on four players
Bayer Leverkusen will be without four players when they face Chelsea in a friendly on Friday evening. The Bundesliga side have confirmed that Jonas Hofmann, Exequiel Palacios, Arthur, and Malik Tillman will all miss the game. Palacios and Hofmann both suffered hamstring injuries in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Pisa and could miss the start of the Bundesliga season. Arthur is sidelined with a knee issue, while Malik Tillman is dealing with calf problems, but both players are expected to be fit for Leverkusen's Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim in two weeks' time.

Hofmann "would probably have considered a transfer" had Xabi Alonso remained at Leverkusen
Speaking to Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Jonas Hofmann said he could have been tempted to leave this summer. 'New coach, new opportunity. I am a product of the Bundesliga and I still play for Bayer Leverkusen; one of the best clubs in Germany. "I feel comfortable here, but under Xabi Alonso I would probably have considered a transfer,' the 33-year-old explained. Hofmann continued and went on to discuss what he felt wrong under ex-coach Xabi Alonso last season after their 2024-23 success. 'I expect a coach to address anything he notices right away. I expect open and direct communication. "A coach shouldn't wait longer than two weeks to do so, because as a coach, I want the players to be in top form so that I can raise the level in training. 'Competition is always necessary, that's clear. I would have expected a little more from the coach in that regard,' he added.

The 32-year-old clearly wants to regain a regular spot in the team which he lost last season under former gaffer Xabi Alonso. "I already had a brief chat [with Erik ten Hag], and I think the chemistry is right for now. The good thing about me is that I'm flexible, that I can play both on the wing and more centrally. 'I try to bring my experience to the table, to ensure a clear game, which is what I stand for and I hope the coach is on board with that too,' he explained. Hofmann went on to talk about ten Hag's football philosophy and what the Netherlands head coach wants to achieve with Die Werkself. "He wants a lot of security in possession and good positional play.
