Wind likely to leave Wolfsburg: "It's never ideal when a player enters the final contract year"

Wind likely to leave Wolfsburg: "It's never ideal when a player enters the final contract year" After three and a half years at the Volkswagen Arena, Jonas Wind appears increasingly likely to leave VfL Wolfsburg during the summer transfer window. Although the Danish striker scored a respectable nine goals in the Bundesliga last season, the 26-year-old endured a difficult campaign under now-dismissed head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, often struggling to secure a regular starting spot. Advertisement With just one year left on his contract, Wind could now be on the move. 'It's never ideal when a player enters the final contract year,' Wolfsburg's managing director for sport, Peter Christiansen, stressed. The challenge, however, is that there are currently no concrete suitors for the striker, according to Kicker. Wind has previously made no secret of his admiration for English football. In an exclusive interview with back in 2022, the Danish international expressed his dream of playing in the Premier League. 'If we look into the future, Arsenal would be a dream destination for me, as it has always been my favorite club,' Wind told Advertisement "In general, I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and it would be exciting to play there. But as I said, that's not what I'm focusing on at the moment. I'm doing well here in Wolfsburg, it's a good club for me, and the Bundesliga is a great league to play in. "At the moment, I'm just focusing on my performances here, and then we'll see if I'm good enough to take the next step sometime in the future.'

Jonas Wind looking for new challenge as Wolfsburg contract extension 'impossible'

Jonas Wind looking for new challenge as Wolfsburg contract extension 'impossible' Jonas Wind is looking for a new challenge as a contract extension at VfL Wolfsburg remains 'almost impossible', according to Kicker. The 26-year-old striker currently has one year remaining on his current contract, but so far is reluctant to sign an extension at the Auto Club. Advertisement As per reports, there are currently no signs of any clubs interested in the Danish international. However, as per our reporting in March, a trio of Premier League clubs were previously monitoring the striker. One of those clubs was Wolves, who at the time were under now former boss Gary O'Neil. However, the West Midlands side will be in the market for a forward given the recent sale of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United. Wind had a lightning start to the 2024/25 season, but much like Wolfsburg themselves, the striker struggled for form in the second half of the campaign. Wind finished with nine goals and three assists in the Bundesliga last term. Should no offer come in for Wind this summer, it's likely that the player will run down his contract and leave as a free agent in 2026. GGFN | Jamie Allen

(Swen Pförtner/dpa via AP) WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) — Interim Wolfsburg coach Daniel Bauer watched his new charges take the lead after just 18 seconds on Friday but Hoffenheim twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw and a point that almost guarantees its top-flight survival. The result lifts Hoffenheim into 14th place in the 18-team Bundesliga with 32 points. Advertisement Heidenheim, which is third from bottom and currently occupying the relegation-playoff spot, has 26 points. It could draw level with Hoffenheim by winning its last two games — and Hoffenheim losing its final match — but Heidenheim has a worse goal difference. St. Pauli is 15th with 31 points and Holstein Kiel 17th with 25 points. Both teams have two matches to play. Last-placed Bochum is already relegated. Very fast own-goal Hoffenheim's point came despite going behind to an own-goal that was the fastest in Wolfsburg's Bundesliga history as Leo Østigård knocked Mohamed Amoura's cross-cum-shot into his own net. Advertisement It was the perfect start for Bauer, the 42-year-old reserve coach who replaced Ralph Hasenhüttl for the last two games of the season. However, Pavel Kadeřábek equalized with a fine volley after 34 minutes and although both teams scored late on – Jonas Wind putting Wolfsburg ahead after 82 minutes and Marius Bülter equalizing three minutes later – the result stayed the same. Wolfsburg is now winless in its last nine games and remains in 12th place with 40 points. ___ AP soccer:
