Ottawa high school vice-principal charged with sexual assault
The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) says a vice-principal at West Carleton Secondary School charged with sexual assault is not currently in the school. Jonathan Cappello was charged with sexual assault in May and is scheduled to appear in court on June 10. Cappello's profile on the Ontario College of Teachers website says Cappello was arrested and charged in the City of Ottawa on May 10, 'which is relevant to his membership in the College.' 'The OCDSB is fully cooperating with police through their investigation. The staff member is not currently in the workplace. We can confirm the charges are not related to the OCDSB community,' OCDSB spokesperson Diane Pernari said in an email. 'Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, we are unable to provide further information at this time.' The Ottawa Police Service would not comment when contacted by CTV News Ottawa on Friday afternoon. 'As a practice, the Ottawa Police Service does not release information about named individuals. Charges laid are a matter of court record,' an Ottawa police spokesperson said in an email. Cappello was awarded a teaching certificate in 2005. Cappello is one of two vice-principals at West Carleton Secondary School and was still listed on the school's website Sunday afternoon. West Carleton Secondary School is located on Dunrobin Road and has Grades 9 to 12 classes. The Ontario College of Teachers Act requires members to report if they have been charged with an offence.
