Kansas City Chiefs National Scout Jonathan Howard on LB Jeffrey Bassa

Kansas City Chiefs National Scout Jonathan Howard on LB Jeffrey Bassa During his press conference during draft weekend, Kansas City Chiefs National Scout Jonathan Howard shared his thoughts on fifth-round draft pick Jeffrey Bassa's transition from safety to linebacker. "It's part of his (Jeffrey Bassa) story. This guy comes there, he was a high school receiver and DB, comes there as a true freshman into an Oregon program that – I mean, you guys see, this team's on primetime every Saturday – and somehow works his way into the rotation despite moving to linebacker during training camp into September of his freshman season." said Howard, "That's a linebacker room that had multiple NFL prospects in there, so, for this kid to work his way into that rotation – as a true freshman – just talks about his confidence, his athleticism (and) his ability to handle transition." Bassa was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference last season with the Oregon Ducks and played in all 14 games, starting in 12. He finished with 54 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. "So, not just to the coverage part, just to the overall kid, that tells you the type of guy we're getting here and why we would feel comfortable with him transitioning here and being able to handle our load," said Howard, "There's a mental aspect to that coverage part, too. This is a very smart player; they talk about that there. That defense they run, it was pretty complex, there's a lot of multitude, a lot of multiples that they are responsible for, and this kid had some of that on his plate. So, when it comes to the coverage aspect and what (Defensive Coordinator) Coach (Steve) Spagnuolo does – and we know how intense that is – this kid will be able to handle that. He'll be able to do that part mentally and athletically." Bassa could be an essential defensive utility player who can step into several roles. The scouting department values his versatility and ability to play linebacker at the next level.

Coronation Street's Carl Webster actor is married to a famous Hollywood movie star – can you guess who?

Soap newcomer Jonathan Howard, who plays Kevin Webster's half-brother Carl, has an impressive acting pedigree having starred in a Marvel blockbuster alongside industry heavyweights. 4 Corrie's Jonathan Howard's wife is a famous actress Credit: ITV 4 Elodie Yung has an impressive list of casting credits Credit: Getty And now fans are realising that his wife Elodie Yung is also very famous. The French-Cambodian actress, 44, will be familiar to fans of Daredevil, in which she played Elektra Natchios, Fox's The Cleaning Lady, and historic fantasy blockbuster Gods of Egypt. The fourth season of crime drama The Cleaning Lady recently aired to strong reviews and saw Elodie reprise her lead role of Cambodian surgeon Thony De La Rosa, who puts her skills to use working for a criminal organisation. Elodie and Jonathan lived together in the US with their six-year-old daughter, before he returned to the UK for the Corrie gig. Though living apart from his family is tough, Jonathan is also relishing being back on home soil. He told the Metro: "I left the north of England 20 years ago, when I was 20. I went to do Dream Team in London then I went to drama school for three years. "I left drama school and managed to work in America and moved to America and I've been in the States for the last 10 years with my wife and I have a daughter over there. "The only hard thing is being away from them, but at the same time it's a real gift to be back in the north of England." Many actors have tried to crack Hollywood after getting their break in soapland, but occasionally some go the other way, including Sir Ian McKellen, who realised a lifelong dream when he played Lionel Hipkis in Corrie. Jonathan is thrilled to be part of the ITV institution and says it's as exciting as starring in huge films like Thor: The Dark World, World War Z, Kingdom and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Coronation Street star's future confirmed after appearing in just TWO episodes this year He told The Mirror: "Being in Coronation Street is just as big a thrill as being in a Hollywood film or an American TV series. It's all the same, everyone's telling stories, whether it's a big $200m movie or a soap like Corrie. "As a Lancashire lad born and raised, the dream was to be in Coronation Street – that was the ceiling, so it feels wonderfully surreal to now be acting with people like Kevin Webster that I watched religiously as a kid. "I'm staying with my mum and I sleep in my childhood bedroom. It's been really nice to come home – going back to my roots." Jonathan's arrival in Weatherfield sparked trouble as he has fallen for cancer-stricken brother Kevin's wife Abi. The pair flirted up a storm after he attempted to steal her parking space and caused her to prang her car as a result. Abi's signature temper came to the surface and she shouted at him, revealing Kevin is suffering from cancer. She lashed out and gave her then unknown brother-in-law a bloody nose, before apologising. Carl saw the funny side and was quickly taken by Abi's fiery side. 4 Jonathan supported Elodie after the release of her flick, Gods of Egypt Credit: Getty

Coronation Street star breaks silence after affair backlash

Jonathan Howard, who plays Carl Webster on the Manchester-based show, has addressed speculation around Carl and Abi Franklin hitting it off after a shock kiss. Spoilers released by show bosses have confirmed that Carl makes a pass at his brother's (Kevin Webster) partner next week. Next week: Carl makes a move on Abi, Maria fears Mick is bad news and Daisy says goodbye to Weatherfield. Read more here: — Coronation Street (@itvcorrie) April 21, 2025 Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard speaks out over backlash to 'affair' storyline Speaking about the kiss, the Coronation Street star told The Mirror: "I think Carl is very impulsive. I think he thinks between his trousers. "I think if they met in different circumstances, maybe he wouldn't have the feelings quite as strongly, but the circumstances where they met, when he had no idea who this lady is, it's just a very animalistic reaction to being attracted to someone. "I think the tug of war with Carl has been between having these feelings, wanting to have that moment with Abi, but constantly balancing it with 'I do know that I'm visiting my brother and he's got cancer.' I think it's the push and pull of those feelings." Discussing whether or not his ITV character feels any guilt pursuing his brother's partner, the actor added: "We have to remember there's a 20-year difference between these brothers. "When I was a wee little baby, Kevin was in his 20s, he was on the cobbles starting his life, having his business and starting his family. Recommended Reading: "I did feel a little resentment at being left behind in some ways. He's not been as present in Carl's life growing up like Debbie was, for example. "So I think there's a feeling of not really owing him too much. He's my brother, on paper, and I love him as a brother, but he's not been a brother who's been a part of my daily life. "He's never been to Germany to visit me. I think that's slight justification for why he doesn't put Kevin at the forefront of every decision he's making."
