Varane signs new QPR contract
QPR midfielder Jonathan Varane has signed a new deal. The Championship club say Frenchman Varane, 23, has signed "a long-term contract" at Loftus Road. He arrived from Spanish side Sporting Gijon last summer and has since made 43 appearances in all competitions. "I feel very, very happy. I think it's a big step for me, signing this new deal. I'm really proud," Varane told the club website. "I love football. It's my passion. When I can play football in a good atmosphere, at a good place like QPR, obviously I can smile a lot."

Sunderland vs Queens Park Rangers LIVE: Championship latest score, goals and updates from fixture
Follow live coverage as Sunderland face Queens Park Rangers in the Championship today. An increasingly competitive second tier in English football remains an intense and exciting competition, with the prize of a place in the Premier League on offer at the end of the season. At the other end of the table, Wayne Rooney is aiming to revive Plymouth's fortunes after they narrowly avoided relegation last year, with Portsmouth and Derby the teams promoted from League One along with play-off final winners Oxford.
