Springfield man dies in Union County crash
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Springfield man succumbed to his injuries after a crash involving a motorcycle on Sunday. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a two-vehicle crash was reported around 1:30 a.m. on US-33 in Union County. 18-year-old killed in Springfield shooting Investigation revealed a motorcycle was traveling southbound on US-33 when the rider attempted to pass in between two vehicles that were also traveling southbound. The motorcycle hit one of the vehicles, a Chevrolet Spark, causing the rider to be ejected and the Chevy to overturn several times before coming to rest in a ditch. Both the motorcyclist and driver sustained serious injuries and were sent to the hospital. The driver of the Chevy was then transferred to the Ohio State University Medical Center, where he later died. He's been identified as Jonathan Wallace, 67, of Springfield. OSP was joined on scene by the Union County Sheriff's Office, Allen Township Fire Department, and Med-Flight. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, and police say both drivers were wearing appropriate safety equipment, like seat belts and helmets. The crash remains under investigation. McDonald's plan for former pub unanimously rejected
McDonald's has been refused permission to convert a derelict pub in Leeds into a fast food restaurant for the second time. The company failed to convince councillors to allow the demolition of the former Old Red Lion in Whinmoor to make way for an outlet and drive-through. A motion to refuse permission on road safety and public health grounds was passed unanimously at a meeting at Leeds Civic Hall on Thursday. McDonald's was previously refused planning permission for the site on York Road last year. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, concerns were raised over the impact on traffic if the development went ahead. Leeds City Council said the outlet would also be within walking distance of two schools and would not promote healthy lifestyles. Jonathan Wallace, representing McDonald's, argued the scheme included road safety improvements. "We don't anticipate that the restaurant would attract significant trade from children walking to and from school," he added. Over 17,000 Pounds of Sausage Links Recalled—What to Know
The USDA announced a recall of fresh and frozen sausage links sold in three states. The meat was recalled due to potential foreign matter contamination. The foreign matter could be pieces of pen after a consumer reported finding such while eating sausage from the affected brand. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a sausage recall on January 31st. DJ's Boudain, a meat company based in Beaumont, Texas, recalled over 17,000 pounds of frozen and fresh sausage links due to possible foreign material contamination. According to the announcement, the possible foreign material could be pieces of pen, as the recall was made after a consumer reported finding the foreign matter while eating a sausage. The announcement also said there has been one reported oral injury due to the consumption of recalled product. The sausages affected were produced on January 23, 2025 and include vacuum-packed sausages for retail shelves and bulk-packed fresh and frozen links. More Than 17,000 Pounds of Sausage Have Been Recalled—Here's What to Know
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that 17,720 pounds of DJ's Boudain sausage link products are being recalled due to the possible contamination with foreign materials. The notice cites the specific presence of 'pieces of a pen' in the meat products and urges consumers not to eat any of it. The FSIS has provided a list of the products named in the recall, which can be found here, as well as images of each individual label. The fresh and frozen boudain sausage link products were produced on January 23, 2025 and bear the establishment number 'EST. 13246' inside of the USDA mark of inspection. These products were shipped to distributors, restaurant and retail locations across Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. 😋😋 🍳🍔 The contamination was discovered thanks to a consumer complaint which detailed the discovery of a piece of a pen while eating the Original Boudain sausage links product. So far, only one report of oral injury associated with consumption of this product has been filed, and the FSIS has received no additional reports of injury or illness as of yet.
