Big fourth inning dooms Canaries in Kansas City
Kansas City, Kan. (Canaries) — A four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference Saturday as Kansas City topped the Canaries 5-3 at Legends Field. The Monarchs scored in the opening inning on a passed ball but the Birds jumped in front with two runs in the third. Scott Combs led off the frame with a double and scored when Jordan Barth doubled to centerfield. Barth later raced home on a base hit from Calvin Estrada. But Kansas City answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to jump in front for good. Mike Hart drew a leadoff walk in the seventh inning and scored on a sacrifice flyout from Scott Combs but the Birds could get no closer. Jordan Barth had to two hits to lead the Canaries offensively as Sioux Falls dips to 9-12 overall. The two teams wrap up their three game series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Barth, Rehwaldt, Dorminy headline dominant win over Chicago
Sioux Falls, S.D. (Canaries) — Jordan Barth slugged two grand slams, Josh Rehwaldt hit for the cycle, Thomas Dorminy struck out nine in seven shutout innings and the Canaries posted their most runs in a game since July 3, 2010 as part of a 22-0 victory over Chicago on Friday. Calvin Estrada smacked a leadoff homerun in the first inning before Hunter Clanin followed with a two-run shot. The Canaries sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the third and scored six runs. Peter Zimmermann ripped an RBI single before Rehwaldt drove in another run with a double. Barth added his first grand slam before the Dogs could escape the jam. The Canaries added five runs in fourth inning and five more in the fifth. Rehwaldt drew a bases loaded walk, Clanin followed with an RBI sacrifice fly, Barth delivered an RBI single and two more runs scored on wild pitches. In the home fifth, another wild pitch put Sioux Falls in front 15-0 before Barth's second grand slam. Jabari Henry smacked his 144th career homerun – two shy of tying Reggie Abercrombie's league record – in the sixth inning and Rehwaldt scored on an error in the seventh before crushing a solo homerun to complete the cycle an inning later. Dorminy did not issue a walk and scattered six hits to earn his first win in a Sioux Falls uniform. Barth's two grand slams and nine RBI both tied league single-game records. Canaries can't overcome early deficit
Fargo, ND (CANARIES) – The Sioux Falls Canaries' late inning rally came up short on Sunday as the Birds fell to Fargo-Moorhead 9-5 at Newman Outdoor Field. Sioux Falls scored in the opening inning as Ernny Ordonez crossed home plate on a groundball double play. The RedHawks responded with six unanswered runs over the next two innings to pull ahead for good. Ordonez got the Birds within 6-2 with an RBI sacrifice flyout in the top of the third but Fargo-Moorhead scored three more runs in the bottom half. Sioux Falls got a run back in the fifth inning when Peter Zimmermann scored on a fielder's choice after leading off the frame with a double. Matt Ruiz cut the deficit to five with a sacrifice groundout in the top of the seventh and Calvin Estrada added an RBI single but the Canaries could get no closer. The Birds outhit Fargo-Moorhead 14-9 for the contest, led by Jordan Barth's three-hit effort. Sioux Falls (1-2) returns home Tuesday night to take on Lincoln at 6:35pm.
