UH's Donahue earns Big West Player of the Week honors
University of Hawai'i shortstop Jordan Donahue was named the Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week following a standout performance in the Rainbow Warriors' series win over UC San Diego. The senior from Damien Memorial School slashed .500/.500/1.167 across three games, tallying six hits, eight RBIs, and three runs scored. It marks the first career weekly honor for Donahue from the conference. Donahue capped his final home series with a memorable Senior Day showing, going 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored in Sunday's 13-2 victory that clinched a spot in the inaugural Big West Championship tournament. He blasted a grand slam in the third inning, followed by a solo homer in the fifth, and later stole home in the seventh. Hawai'i (33-19, 16-14 Big West) secured the No. 4 seed in the postseason tournament and will face UC Santa Barbara in a single-elimination matchup on Wednesday in Fullerton, California. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. HST and will be streamed on ESPN+ with radio coverage on ESPN Honolulu. Donahue enters the tournament hitting .279 with 18 RBIs and 21 runs scored on the season. ‘Bows clinch series win over UC Davis with 16-0 rout
On the heels of a Saturday night series-opening win, the University of Hawai'i baseball team made it four straight victories with a dominant 16-0 rout of UC Davis in a Sunday matinee at Les Murakami Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors (16-4) secured their second consecutive series win and continued to roll behind the return of senior shortstop Jordan Donahue, who shined in his second game back just four weeks after surgery to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right hand. Donahue went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and made an immediate impact defensively, helping UH escape a bases-loaded jam in the first inning with a smooth 6-4-3 double play. 'Being out with an injury is tough,' Donahue said. 'But it was all about being a good teammate and getting healthy. Now that I'm back, I'm just trying to slow the game down and enjoy every pitch. There's nothing like playing at Les Murakami Stadium.' The offense exploded behind Donahue, with Draven Nushida and Jared Quandt each notching two hits and an RBI. Maryknoll graduate Matt Miura stayed red-hot, going 2-for-2 to improve to a perfect 6-for-6 in the series. 'Watching the team while I was hurt, we were balling out,' Donahue added. 'We just have to keep the confidence and good vibes going in the locker room.' Hawai'i's pitching staff held UC Davis scoreless for the full nine innings, continuing a stretch of dominance on both sides of the ball. Liam O'Brien worked the first 3.1 innings allowing just two hits with two strikeouts. Sebastian Gonzalez earned the win in relief, going 4.2 innings with three strikeouts. The Rainbow Warriors will go for the series sweep Monday night at 6:35 p.m. The finale will be televised live on Spectrum Sports. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
