Rangers Covid rebels reunite 5 years on from wild rule-breaking party as ex-Gers ace aims brutal dig at Nicola Sturgeon

A FORMER Gers player has taken to social media to poke fun at the ex-First Minister, referencing a punishment he faced while at the club. Jordan Jones posted a recent photo with fellow ex-Rangers man George Edmundson and attached a number of news headlines about the pair's 2020 Covid breach. 5 Former Gers star Jordan Jones shared this snap of himself and George Edmundson Credit: Instagram / @jordanjones45 5 It was followed by this pic of Nicola Sturgeon Credit: Instagram / @jordanjones45 5 The former First Minister has been cleared of all charges Credit: Getty The snap was followed by one of Nicola Sturgeon - leader of the country at that time - when she was arrested in an SNP finance probe two years ago. She has since had the charges against her dropped. The Ibrox duo were found to have attended a house party during a pandemic lockdown as images showed them in the drink-laden flat before police intervened in the early hours. They were fined by cops and punished internally by the club by way of a suspension. The SFA also came down hard on the pair as they ended up slapped with a seven-match ban. Neither of them played for Rangers again. Jones, now of Carlisle United and formerly of Kilmarnock, moved on loan to Sunderland shortly after the incident then permanently to Wigan in the summer. Edmundson was loaned to Derby then punted to Ipswich before eventually ending up at Middlesborough. Before their exits pundit and Ibrox hero Kris Boyd suspected their time was up, whilst current interim manager Barry Ferguson said he was disappointed but personally wouldn't have sacked them. Jones' gripe with John Swinney's old boss Sturgeon - as seen in his social media post - stems from her reaction to the incident. Nicola Sturgeon announces release date for her memoirs as she reveals book title She said: 'It's taking all my power not to use expletives whenever I get asked about football. "I've not been given all the details of the Rangers incident yet. I know the club has said they are investigating. 'It's unfair to the vast majority who don't have the privileges elite sportspeople have right now. 'When they see them breach these rules, people think, 'Why am I bothering?' 'So I say to football, and sport generally, please make sure your house is in order. 'It shouldn't take me to say to highly paid footballers, 'You have to obey the rules'. 'Whenever football rears its head I get emails from people suggesting I'm in favour of, or against, one team or the other. That's not true. 'I don't care if it's Celtic, Rangers or any other club — if you're breaching the rules, you're in the wrong.' Sturgeon and then-husband Peter Murrell's grilling over party finances came years after the so-called 'Covidiot' scandal, and she has since spoken out about how it felt to have that hanging over her despite no wrongdoing being found on her part. 5 Jones now plays in England after a recent spell at Kilmarnock Credit: PA 5 Edmundson is a regular at Middlesborough Credit: PA Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
