Tanker truck catches fire on Columbus' Northeast Side, closing part of I-270
A tanker truck hauling fuel ran off the road on Columbus' Northeast Side, overturned and caught fire on the afternoon of June 22, according to Columbus public safety dispatchers.
The truck driver is in stable condition and was transported to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, a dispatcher said. Black plumes of smoke could still be seen in the afternoon, but the Columbus Division of Fire reported that the fire was contained, according to a dispatcher.

People reported the crash to 911 around 1:40 p.m.
As of about 2:15 p.m., all lanes in both directions on I-270 were closed near State Route 161 on the Northeast Side of Columbus. The ramps from State Route 161 to I-270 in that area were also closed.
The area may be closed to traffic for hours and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency may need to respond.
