Jordan-Syria-US meeting held in Amman
Foreign ministers from Syria and Jordan, as well as a United States envoy have met in Amman to discuss ways to support the rebuilding of Syria under its new government, as Damascus seeks investment deals with international companies to revive an economy battered by 14 years of civil war. Syria's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that its top diplomat Asaad Al Shaibani met with Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US envoy for Syria Tom Barrack to discuss 'ways of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the three sides' to serve Syria's stability, 'sovereignty and regional security'. Damascus said the sides had agreed to form a working group 'to support the Syrian government's efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in [Suwayda] province, and work to find a comprehensive solution to the crisis'. The Jordanian-Syrian-American meeting was a continuation of discussions held between the officials in Amman on July 19 about deadly clashes in the Druze-majority Syrian province of Suwayda, where a week of sectarian violence killed 1,400 people before a ceasefire put an end to the bloodshed. Jordan hosts trilateral meeting with Syria and US on Syria's stability, reconstruction
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan hosted a joint Jordanian-Syrian-American meeting to discuss the situation in Syria and ways to support the country's reconstruction based on principles that ensure its security, stability, sovereignty, unity, non-interference in its affairs, and fulfillment of the aspirations of the Syrian people while preserving the rights of all Syrians. The meeting was attended by Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Assad al-Shaybani, US Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrett, along with representatives from relevant institutions in the three countries. This session follows previous discussions held in Amman aimed at solidifying the ceasefire in Sweida province in southern Syria and resolving the ongoing crisis there. The participants affirmed that Sweida province and all its local communities are an integral part of the Syrian Arab Republic, with the rights of its residents safeguarded in the ongoing process of building a new Syria that guarantees security for all its citizens, ensuring their representation and involvement in shaping Syria's future. Jordan and the United States welcomed recent steps by the Syrian government, including: Conducting thorough investigations and holding accountable all perpetrators of crimes and violations in Sweida, with readiness to cooperate with relevant UN bodies and involve them in the investigation process. Increasing humanitarian aid access and flow to all areas of Sweida in cooperation with UN agencies. Intensifying efforts of service institutions to restore disrupted public services caused by recent events. Beginning rehabilitation of areas damaged during the conflicts in the province. Welcoming targeted international contributions to support these efforts and assist the Syrian government in facilitating the return of displaced persons. Initiating social reconciliation processes in Sweida and strengthening civil peace. Appreciating the support and backing of Jordan and the United States in these regards. Safadi, Barrett, and Shaybani reaffirmed the full solidarity of Jordan and the United States with Syria's security, stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens. They called on the international community to stand with Syria in its reconstruction efforts based on principles that guarantee security, stability, sovereignty, unity, and respect for the aspirations and rights of the Syrian people. The three parties agreed to hold another meeting in the coming weeks to continue deliberations and respond to the Syrian government's request to form a trilateral working group (Syrian-Jordanian-American) aimed at supporting the Syrian government's efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Sweida province and resolve the ongoing crisis.

During the meetings, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, His Majesty reaffirmed Jordan's support for Syria's efforts to preserve its security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, noting the importance of Washington's role in supporting the reconstruction process in Syria in a manner that preserves the rights of all Syrians. The King highlighted Jordan's readiness to share its expertise in all fields to help develop and strengthen the capabilities of Syrian institutions. His Majesty also noted the need to step up Jordanian-Syrian cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism and preventing arms and drug smuggling. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meetings. Shibani and Barrack were in Jordan to participate in a tripartite Jordanian-Syrian-American meeting held to follow up on talks hosted in Amman last month, and discuss the situation in Syria and ways to support the country's reconstruction.

Jordan to host meeting with Syria and US on Syrian reconstruction
Jordan will host a Jordanian-Syrian-American meeting on Tuesday to discuss ways to support the rebuilding of Syria, its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates says, as Damascus seeks investment deals with international companies to revive its war-ravaged economy. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and United States envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack are expected to attend, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's fledgling government has been grappling with the fallout from sectarian violence between Bedouin and Druze fighters in the southern province of Suwayda as well as Israeli strikes on Syrian soldiers and the capital, Damascus. Syria's economy remains in tatters after nearly 14 years of war and the ouster of longtime President Bashar al-Assad in December. Jordan made its announcement after Damascus signed 12 agreements worth $14bn on Wednesday, including a $4bn agreement with Qatar's UCC Holding to build a new airport and a $2bn deal to establish a subway in Damascus with the national investment corporation of the United Arab Emirates. The projects 'will extend across Syria and represent a qualitative shift in infrastructure and economic life', Talal al-Hilali, head of the Syrian Investment Authority, said during a ceremony at the presidential palace in Damascus. He described the agreements as 'a turning point' for Syria's future. Al-Sharaa and Barrack were both present at the signing ceremony, according to Syria's official SANA news agency. The United Nations has put Syria's post-war reconstruction costs at more than $400bn. Syria's new authorities have worked to attract investment for the reconstruction of infrastructure across the country after the US and the European Union lifted sanctions on Syria in the wake of al-Assad's ouster. Other major developments on the investment front include the $2bn Damascus Towers project for residential high rises, signed with the Italian-based company UBAKO; a $500m deal for the Baramkeh Towers project, also in Damascus; and another $60m agreement for Baramkeh Mall. Last month, Saudi Arabia said it would invest about $3bn in real estate and infrastructure projects in Syria. In May, Damascus signed a $7bn energy deal with a consortium of Qatari, Turkish and US companies as it seeks to revive its crippled power sector. (Agencies)
