Celtic hero Kyogo hints at next season plan after poor spell
The former Celtic striker has had a miserable time of it so far since his £10million move to France in January. Just two Ligue 1 starts and no goals was a far cry from his glittering time at the Hoops during which his net-bulging was a major contributory factor to Celtic's trophy dominance. It was made harder when manager Jorge Sampaoli was sacked soon after the signing of Kyogo then claimed he had no say in the recruitment of the Japan international. Replacement Habib Beye went on to freeze the Hoops hero out. Read more: The five players Celtic are 'open to offers' for this summer Steven Gerrard spotted at Anfield amid Rangers speculation Beye hinted at crunch talks to be held with the player and there has been a a feeling in France that Rennes would cut their losses this summer. But Kyogo insists he's ready to hit the ground running in pre-season. He is back in Japan for some downtime and was spotted watching former Vissel Kobe teammate Hotaru Yamaguchi in action as V-Varen Nagasaki took on Ehime FC. Speaking to Excite, Kyogo said: "I was happy to get to meet someone I wanted to see while on the off-season and I was looking forward to seeing him play. "I'll do my best, too, when I am back playing in pre-season."

Kyogo sees Rennes humiliation spiral out of control after Celtic hero's latest indignity
Kyogo's time in France has gone from bad to worse as the ex- Celtic hero finds himself bombed out of the Rennes squad. The Japanese striker has only made six appearances since his £10million move to the Ligue 1 side in January and has yet to break his goal duck. Kyogo hasn't kicked a ball since coming off the bench as an 83rd-minute sub in the 5-1 away trouncing of Le Havre on April 13. Now, the 30-year-old has slid further down the pecking order after being left out of the Red and Blacks' last two matchday squads. Rennes - who sit 11th in the French top-flight - edged out Nantes 2-1 on April 18 before succumbing to a 4-1 defeat at Lyon last week. And Kyogo was nowhere to be seen, with French reports suggesting the big-money winter arrival was simply "not selected". It's another bitter blow for the 23-times capped star, who is under contract at Roazhon Park until 2027. The toiling attacker - understood to be pocketing around £22,500 per week - could find himself up for sale this summer with inevitable speculation already linking him with a quick-fire return to Parkhead. Jorge Sampaoli - the manager who brought him to Rennes before being sacked days later - dropped a bombshell earlier this month by claiming he never sanctioned the move , pinning the blame on the club's sporting director. And new boss Habib Beye has confessed the out of favour star doesn't fit into his style of play, saying: "Kyogo has different abilities from other strikers, he needs to have a focal point, because he's very mobile. "He's a combination player, and we're working a lot at the moment on these notions of complementarity attack, so that he feels confident and fully involved." Beye replaces Sampaoli as Rennes head coach
PARIS, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Former Senegal international Habib Beye has been named Stade Rennais head coach to replace the sacked Jorge Sampaoli, the Ligue 1 club said on Thursday. Beye, who won 44 caps with Senegal from 2001-08, spent most of his playing career at RC Strasbourg and Olympique de Marseille before stints at Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Doncaster Rovers. Argentine Sampaoli was dismissed after seven defeats in 10 games since he was appointed last November, leaving the Brittany club in 16th place in the Ligue 1 standings.

Rennes part ways with Jorge Sampaoli
Jorge Sampaoli is no longer Rennes' head coach, the Ligue 1 side has announced. The 64-year-old manager joined the Bretons last November as a replacement for the dismissed Julien Stéphan but he ultimately failed to turn the club's fortunes around. Rennes' season has spiraled out of control with Sampaoli overseeing five defeats in as many games in all competitions since the turn of the year. Les Rouge et Noir occupy Ligue 1's relegation play-off spot in 16th place. They will host in-form BlueCo-owned RC Strasbourg on Sunday. Sampaoli failed to inject new ideas and the energy he was once renowned for in a Rennes club in a now serious sporting crisis. Get French Football News understands that the Argentine's tactical choices raised many eyebrows within the Bretons, as echoed by Seko Fofana's comments following Rennes' narrow 3-2 defeat last Saturday at Monaco. What's more, the club's executives didn't see eye-to-eye with Sampaoli regarding the players Rennes should target in the winter transfer window. Sampaoli signed a contract set to expire in 2026. The Argentine's counselors met with Rennes this Thursday to find an agreement regarding a contract termination. Former Red Star head coach Habib Beye will replace Jorge Sampaoli in the Rennes dugout. Rennes' Jota returns to Celtic
Jota (25) has left Rennes to secure his comeback to Celtic FC, both clubs have announced. The Portuguese winger has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Scottish Premiership giants, subject to international clearance, which will see him remain at Glasgow until June 2030. Jota only joined Rennes last summer in an €8m deal from Al-Ittihad, but he arrived out of fitness and when he finally got up to speed, he was no longer part of Jorge Sampaoli's plans while Rennes' season spiraled out of control. 🇵🇹 🍀 — Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) January 27, 2025 Rennes and Celtic FC reached a €10m agreement for Jota to return to Celtic Park. In a separate deal, Celtic FC striker Kyogo Furuhashi will join the Ligue 1 club imminently. With Rennes, Jota has logged one goal and one assist in 10 appearances with Les Rouge et Noir. 'It's very nostalgic for me because it was such an amazing feeling and all the moments that I felt through my two seasons here, and I'm just delighted to be back. I'm really excited and I just can't wait to start', Jota said. GFFN | Bastien Cheval
