Kyogo Furuhashi completes €9m switch to Birmingham City
Kyogo Furuhashi (30) has completed a permanent move to Birmingham City. He leaves Stade Rennais after just six months at the club. Furuhashi was a target for Jorge Sampaoli, but the Argentine head coach was eventually dismissed a couple of days after the centre-forward joined on a two-and-a-half-year contract. His successor in the Roazhon Park dugout, Habib Beye, barely fielded Furuhashi. The Japanese international never scored for Les Rouge et Noir, and just six months after making the move to the Breton club, he was one of several players that they were looking to offload during the current transfer window. Advertisement Whilst the fee has not been disclosed, L'Équipe understands that Rennes will earn a little over €9m for Furuhashi. There are also bonuses included in the deal worth a little under €1m. The Japanese international has signed a three-year deal with Birmingham City, who will play in the EFL Championship next season. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Kyogo close to UK return after failed Rennes stint
The former Celtic star is reportedly in discussions with Championship side Birmingham City. The 30-year-old striker moved to Rennes in January for £10 million. However, he only made one start, with five more appearances as a substitute, and was last seen on the pitch in April. The sacking of manager Jorge Sampaoli, who revealed he had no say in Kyogo's signing, and his replacement Habib Beye, who sidelined the Japanese player, did not help his cause. L'Equipe reports that Birmingham City are in "advanced talks" with Rennes and are set to recover the £10 million spent in January, potentially with a smaller initial fee plus add-ons. Kyogo was one of Ange Postecoglou's early signings at Parkhead and scored 85 goals in 165 appearances. He did not manage a single goal in France and hopes the move to Birmingham will rejuvenate his career and catch the eye of Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu. Birmingham City, managed by former Celtic coach Chris Davies, have had their eye on Kyogo for a while and are hopeful he can help them achieve their ambitious goals in the Championship. The move is expected to be finalised soon, marking Kyogo's return to familiar footballing soil.

Kyogo closes in on Birmingham move as transfer fee revealed
After moving to France in a £10 million switch in January, things could not have gone much worse for the 30-year-old. A start on his debut proved to be the only time he was selected in the XI for the Ligue 1 side, making just five more sub appearances and not featuring after April. Manager Jorge Sampaoli being sacked and then admitting he had no say in the Kyogo signing didn't help, and replacement Habib Beye ended up freezing the Japanese striker out. Read more: Celtic fans have been keen to see their club put their hero out his misery and bring him back, but it looks like he will return to British football with another club. L'Equipe reports the Blues are in "advanced talks" with Rennes with the French side about to recoup the £10m they pain in the winter. This may include a slightly smaller initial fee plus add-ons. Kyogo was one of Ange Postecoglou's first signings after arriving at Parkhead and went on to score 85 goals in 165 appearances for the club. But he didn't find the net once in France and will hope this move to Birmingham revives his career and gets him back on the radar of Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu.

Danish international Albert Grønbæk undergoing Genoa medical
Albert Grønbæk (24) is nearing an exit from Stade Rennais, with L'Équipe reporting that he is currently undergoing his medical at Serie A side Genoa CFC. However, the French outlet explains that a full agreement between the two clubs has still not been reached. In particular, Genoa and Rennes have not reached an agreement on the clauses surrounding the €11 million purchase option attached to the loan deal. Grønbæk only arrived at Rennes last summer when he was signed for €15 million from Norwegian club Bødo/Glimt. The Danish international had a bright start, but performances dipped, and he soon began to struggle in the north of France under Julien Stéphan and Jorge Sampaoli. He was sent out on loan in the winter transfer window to Southampton FC, but injuries curtailed his involvement. Advertisement Rennes had initially been open to involving him in the squad and giving him a chance to meet with Habib Beye (who arrived as the head coach after he had left for the Premier League side), however, Grønbæk reportedly wanted a fresh start away from Les Rouge et Noirs. Celtic hero Kyogo hints at next season plan after poor spell
The former Celtic striker has had a miserable time of it so far since his £10million move to France in January. Just two Ligue 1 starts and no goals was a far cry from his glittering time at the Hoops during which his net-bulging was a major contributory factor to Celtic's trophy dominance. It was made harder when manager Jorge Sampaoli was sacked soon after the signing of Kyogo then claimed he had no say in the recruitment of the Japan international. Replacement Habib Beye went on to freeze the Hoops hero out. Read more: The five players Celtic are 'open to offers' for this summer Steven Gerrard spotted at Anfield amid Rangers speculation Beye hinted at crunch talks to be held with the player and there has been a a feeling in France that Rennes would cut their losses this summer.
