A fire has broken out at the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba in Spain, AFP reported. Firefighters are currently on the scene working to bring the blaze under control.
Videos circulating online show flames and thick smoke rising from inside the historic structure, which is both a major tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
According to emergency crews, the blaze began around 9 pm local time in a lateral chapel area and is believed to have been caused by a battery malfunction in a cleaning machine. The exact cause is still under investigation, and further details are awaited.

The Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba was originally built as a mosque in 785 CE during the Umayyad Caliphate. It was later converted into a Roman Catholic cathedral in 1236 after the Christian reconquest of the city. Today, it officially functions as a Catholic cathedral, with daily Masses held on-site, while retaining much of its original Islamic architecture.
