Bengals breakout player prediction from NFL analyst is wild
When one thinks of breakout players for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2025, common names come to mind. Joseph Ossai could enjoy a breakout with a bigger role. Myles Murphy could start living up to that first-round potential. Dax Hill could soar at cornerback if he can stay healthy. The list goes on and on. Advertisement Jermaine Burton, though, would be pretty far down the list. RELATED: Bengals UDFA is already turning heads at OTAs Even so, while picking every team's breakout player next season, that's who Steve Palazzolo went with on "Check the Mic" recently. To say it's bold would be an understatement. Earlier this year, Burton sounded like a guy just hanging on to a roster spot at all after a rookie season marred by the walkthrough incident and multiple reports of off-field hiccups. That doesn't even cover the on-field aspect. In order to break out, Burton would have to carve out playing time for himself on a depth chart featuring Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. That means beating at least Andrei Iosivas for snaps and Charlie Jones is back healthy as a primary returner on special teams. Advertisement Which isn't to say Burton can't do it. The vibes around his name over the last month have been positive. But it's a big uphill battle. And given the makeup of the entire Bengals roster right now, they would probably benefit from one of those defensive guys (or more than one) being the big breakout player. Cincinnati Bengals 2025 free agency tracker: Rumors and signings
Cincinnati Bengals 2025 free agency tracker: Rumors and signings The Cincinnati Bengals enter free agency on Wednesday, March 12 with money to spend, needs to fill and contract extensions to iron out. Like the rest of the NFL, the Bengals really got started during free agency's legal tampering window, which started on Monday. Here's a running list of Bengals free agency updates as they happen, with the newest items at the top. The Bengals were in on free-agent pass rusher Azeez Ojulari around the time they re-upped with Joseph Ossai. Maybe not a rumor, but notable -- Chase-Bengals contract extension buzz got a little juice from the wideout himself on social media. One of the team's apparent biggest goals was getting Ossai back under contract. They did that -- on a surprising contract, too. Not long after the Bengals found a new linebacker, former draft pick Akeem Davis-Gaither signed with a new team. The Bengals went out and found a Super Bowl winner to help at a position undergoing some massive change after Germaine Pratt's trade request. The Bengals entered the offseason wanting to fix the run defense, which coaches say will help the pass rush dramatically. Slaton is strictly a run-stuffing player and the contract reflects it. Perine returns to help the Bengals after the team was miffed he got away the first time. At least one national reporter hints that the Bengals might be closer to keeping Higgins and Chase than most would think. The Bengals get a critical veteran back on a big-money deal that is risky compared to what they normally like to do with players his age.

Cincinnati Bengals should target these best remaining free agents
The Cincinnati Bengals did some big things on the first day of the NFL free agency tampering window. But plenty of needs remain across the roster -- and free agency has some big names the team could sign. So far, the Bengals have mostly focused on defense, adding outsiders at linebacker and in the defensive trenches. They also kept some familiar faces with B.J. Hill and Joseph Ossai. They even blended both re-adding Samaje Perine. Now, here's a quick look at a few names on the market at positions of need the Bengals should target next. Cody Ford isn't going to be the answer as a starting guard and they aren't paying him as such. Adding a longtime veteran like Scherff would lock up a starting spot and still give them wiggle room to draft a rookie who can compete at the other guard spot. Don't sleep on Becton, a guy Bengals fans liked last year. He switched to guard and enjoyed a resurgence on the way to a Super Bowl in Philadelphia. He'd be a plug-and-play starter on the interior. The Bengals obviously don't want to break the bank on a pass-rusher. But they still don't have enough proven pressure coming from the edge right now. Ojulari feels like a still-ascending player who will need to settle for a cheaper prove-it deal, perhaps putting him in their price range. Why not go after another old friend? The Bengals locked down a nose tackle in free agency already. Adding more versatile pass-rushing juice to the rotation with a guy like Ogunjobi on a cheaper contract would be a nice way to guarantee solid depth all season.
