Wendy's will soon start exporting its most popular meal
First launched in 2019 under the name "Bigger Bag," the promotion that eventually evolved into Wendy's (WEN) "Biggie Bag" very quickly became one of the fast-food chain's most popular meal deals. Costing either $5 or $6 depending on the type of sandwich selected, the deal allows customers to pair either a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, Double Stack, or classic Crispy Chicken with a four-piece order of chicken nuggets, a small fries, and a soft drink. The more expensive version allows one to pick a Bacon Double Stack or Crispy Chicken BLT. Over the years, Wendy's has also experimented with breakfast versions of the Biggie Bag, as well as ones that focus on sides rather than centering around a sandwich. But this summer, the chain brought the concept abroad for the first time with the £5 Biggie Bag in the United Kingdom. "Fresh beef topped with cheese, pickles, onions, tomatoes, crisp lettuce, Heinz ketchup, and Heinz mayo," the description for the meal deal on the Wendy's website for the UK now reads. "Four pieces of chicken fillet lightly breaded for a crispy outer, then fried to seal in the juicy goodness, all with small fries and a small drink." The meal deal has been rolled out as a seasonal promotion to gauge market interest; the items will be available in Wendy's UK stores until August 2. British Wendy's has also launched a version of the "saucy" nuggets that are covered with Frank's RedHot Buffalo Sauce or Cattleman's Honey BBQ sauce. As these are only available as six- and 10-piece orders, they cannot be included in the Biggie Bag promotion that includes a four-piece order of nuggets. Wendy's menu adds sequel to its most popular meal
Fast food customers may have a favorite chain, but they're also getting careful with their spending. Not everyone has cut back, but even McDonald's, which has generally not been a major player in the value space, has admitted that price has played a bigger role than it did in the past. In fact, CEO Chris Kempczinski has made it clear that value is a clear focus for the chain. In the U.S., the January launch of the McValue platform provides consistent, compelling value, with the choice and flexibility our customers want," he said during the chain's fourth quarter earnings call. Wendy's has always been a player in value with its $5 Biggie Bag being a menu staple. The chain, however, has an even cheaper deal that's legendary with customers and it's bringing that back. While Wendy's (WEN) has offered various Biggie Bags, which contain a sandwich, a four-piece chicken nuggets, fries, and a drink for $5 or $6 depending upon which sandwiches are involved as a menu staple. Even $6 is a lower price point than similar meal deals from McDonald's and Burger King. Wendy's, however also has a famous $4 meal deal, the 4 for $4. The 4 for $4 offered customers a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, four-piece chicken nuggets, small fries, and a small drink for $4. It was a wildly popular promotion that was discontinued in January 2024. Now, at a time when consumers are especially value conscious, Wendy's has brought back a $4 deal. It's not the classic 4 for $4, however, it's a little worse, but it still offers a lot of value. Wendy's CEO Kirk Tanner explained the chain's plans to win back customers after a quarter in which global comparable sales dropped 1.1% while use same-store sales fell by 2.6%. "The first leg of our strategy is providing our customers with fresh, famous food. We do this in three areas; cravable core, impactful innovation and collaborations, and relevant value," he said during the fast-food giant's first-quarter earnings call. Tanner is hopeful about Wendy's plans for the summer. "In this environment, we know that customers are looking for an even more compelling reason to visit restaurants. In response to changing consumer behavior, we're launching a new 100 Days of Summer campaign to provide customers even more of our fresh, famous food through core innovation, collaborations, and value offerings at a time when our customers need it most," he shared. No one knows how May 28 became the unofficial hamburger holiday, according to the National Day Calendar, but its proximity to Memorial Day and the outdoor grilling season could be a reason. Hamburgers don't really need a special day as they are a staple of dining out and eating at home. Americans eat an estimated 50 billion burgers. The average U.S consumer eats 26 burgers per year from restaurants, drive-throughs and other food service operations, according to Circana, based on research from the 12 months ending March 2025. Burgers and cheeseburgers are among America's favorite entrées, according to YouGov's regularly updated list of The Most Popular American Dishes. On YouGov's list, only French fries and mashed potatoes rank slightly higher (with an 85% and 84% popularity ranking, respectively, for each of those side dishes). BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse is offering a bundle deal for their classic cheeseburger. Those deals begin at $45 and includes four cheeseburgers, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, salad and chips or fries. The restaurant will also offer a burger and 'Pizookie' meal deal for $13. This meal includes a cheeseburger, lettuce, tomatoes, dill pickles, burger sauce, fries and a personal Pizookie. If you're in the mood to eat a burger from a restaurant known for its chicken wings, Buffalo Wild Wings is offering a deal that'll provide you one for half the usual price.
