Singer Ju Hak-nyeon cleared of charges over alleged prostitution activities

Ju Hak-nyeon had denied paying for sex with former Japanese adult actress Kirara Asuka. Photo: Ju Hak-nyeon/Instagram South Korean singer Ju Hak-nyeon, formerly of K-pop boy band The Boyz, will not face charges after he was accused of being involved in prostitution activities. The 26-year-old was in June when the South Korean media reported that his then agency, One Hundred Label, had received an enquiry from Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun about his personal meeting with Kirara Asuka, a Japanese adult film actress-turned-influencer, in Tokyo in late May. A South Korean media outlet claimed that he had allegedly paid for sex with the 36-year-old woman. The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul then received a complaint on June 19 from a netizen requesting an investigation into Ju. On July 2, South Korean media outlet Sports Kyunghyang reported that the police had decided on June 25 not to prosecute Ju, as the complaint was based on an Internet article and that there were insufficient specific reasons or circumstances to initiate an investigation. Ju had admitted on June 19 in a letter of apology on Instagram Stories to meeting Asuka, but denied rumours of being involved in prostitution activities. The apology came after he was booted from The Boyz on June 18. He wrote another post on Instagram on June 20, threatening to take legal action against media outlets which continued to spread false information about him. He also said that he was removed from The Boyz with no valid reasons and that his contract termination was done unilaterally by One Hundred Label. The company defended its decision on the same day, saying that he was suspended as the controversy had affected The Boyz's activities and that it provided grounds for contract termination. One Hundred Label warned that it would take legal action against Ju if he continued to repeat the distorted claims. Asuka broke her silence on social media platform X on June 21, saying that she had never accepted money for private sexual services, including during the encounter with Ju. The singer then took to social media on June 22, denying the prostitution allegation again and detailing the sequence of events leading to his sacking from The Boyz. South Korean newspaper The Korea Herald said that a court ruling is expected to determine whether the contract termination is lawful. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

K-pop idol and former The Boyz member Ju Hak-nyeon found not guilty in prostitution case, vows legal action

SEOUL, July 2 — South Korean police have cleared Ju Hak-nyeon, former member of K-pop boy group The Boyz, of prostitution allegations following an investigation. According to Korea JoongAng Daily, the Gangnam Police Precinct confirmed today that Ju's case would not be referred to prosecutors due to a lack of evidence. Police said the individual who filed the complaint against Ju had only submitted online news articles as evidence, which they deemed insufficient to continue the investigation. Ju's exclusive contract with agency One Hundred Label was terminated last month after Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun reported that he had met privately with Japanese model and influencer Asuka Kirara, who has previously worked in the adult film industry. Other reports accused Ju of engaging in prostitution, leading to a complaint filed on June 19 requesting a formal police investigation. At the time, One Hundred Label cited 'breach of trust' as its reason for ending Ju's contract. Ju has repeatedly denied the allegations of prostitution and illegal activities. He has said he will file a civil suit against the reporter and media outlet that first published the allegations, as well as pursue legal action against his former agency and the individual who reported him to the police. Ju debuted with The Boyz in 2017 and officially left the group earlier this year.

Ex-THE BOYZ member Ju Haknyeon denies prostitution allegations, accuses agency of wrongful termination

Former member of K-pop group THE BOYZ, Ju Hak-nyeon, has firmly denied allegations of prostitution and accused his former agency of deliberately framing him and unlawfully terminating his contract. The idol issued a detailed personal statement, alleging that he was "turned into a sex criminal overnight" due to manipulated information and media misreporting. Hak-nyeon admitted to meeting adult film actress Asuka Kirara, but stressed that he committed no criminal offence. He further claimed that false reports and a pre-planned attempt to expel him from the agency have left him socially destroyed and under extreme distress. In an emotional letter addressed to fans and the public, Ju Hak-nyeon wrote: "Hello, I'm a student. Before the letter of inquiry was sent to the affiliate agency by the weekly magazine, I first heard that the photo had been taken. So, I explained the situation to the affiliate agency and asked for help. I admitted the part I did wrong and wanted to make a choice that would minimise harm to potential members. I spent many days with my eyes closed, thinking about the fans who have supported me all this time, and the team members who have been like friends to me. I've been in a lot of pain. Because of this, my activities were stopped immediately, and I discussed the next steps with the company." 'However, the affiliated company suddenly demanded the cancellation of the full contract, along with signing an agreement that included paying more than 200 billion won. They even demanded a huge amount of criminal penalties that are not stated in the contract. They said there was no room for negotiation.' "The very next day, someone filed a report accusing me of sex trafficking with the investigative agency, based on that false article. It was all so strange—this whole process felt prearranged. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was fabricating reasons to terminate the full contract. There is a growing fear that I am being blackmailed as a sex trafficking perpetrator. All of this happened within just two days." 'So I couldn't just stay silent. The reporter has been sued for publishing a personal opinion and reporting false information. We will also file a civil damages claim against the reporters and journalists involved. From now on, as soon as false reports from specific media outlets are released, I will take legal action against those who accuse me without any basis.' "As of May 30, I am not claiming that my actions were right. To the fans who believed in me and supported me as an idol, I am truly sorry for my careless behaviour. I will reflect deeply, and I will carry this with me in my heart for the rest of my life." "For the first time, I was suddenly branded a sex offender and socially destroyed one morning for reasons I still don't understand. Wherever I went, it felt like people were pointing fingers at me. My tears haven't stopped as I think about my fans, my mother, and my family, who have always supported and encouraged me. If I give up my life without revealing the truth, I will be remembered forever as a sex offender." "I will hold the reporters and media outlets accountable for falsely reporting me as a sex offender without reason. I also want to uncover who is behind all of this." "From a personal perspective, it is extremely difficult and frightening to fight against a huge company, but I will endure until the end—for the many people who care about and support me." 'Thank you for reading this lengthy post.' Ju Hak-nyeon has already initiated legal proceedings against the journalist and publications involved in spreading what he calls 'false' and 'prearranged' accusations. He also expressed deep regret to his fans while maintaining that he had not violated the law. Describing the past few weeks as harrowing, he vowed to expose those responsible for what he believes is a targeted effort to end his career and reputation.
