USC women's basketball to face NC State in Charlotte in November

Add another game to USC women's basketball's 2025-2026 nonconference schedule. Last week, it was announced that the Trojans will face NC State in Charlotte on November 9. The game will be played at Spectrum Center, home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. NC State is coming off its second consecutive trip to the Sweet 16. In 2024, the Wolfpack made it to the Final Four, where they fell to eventual national champion South Carolina. Advertisement The matchup is one of several high-profile games the Women of Troy have scheduled for next season. USC will also host UConn at Galen Center and travel to South Bend to face Notre Dame. In addition, the Trojans will take on South Carolina at Arena (formerly known as Staples Center) in Downtown Los Angeles. Right now, the state of USC's roster for the start of next season is very much in the air. The Trojans will likely be without superstar Juju Watkins—who suffered an ACL injury in the NCAA Tournament—for a good chunk of next season. USC was also very active in the transfer portal, losing several key players, but also bringing in a big addition, UCLA's Londynn Jones. Natalia Bryant honors father Kobe with emblem on USC graduation sash

The eldest of Kobe Bryant's daughters, Natalia Bryant, graduated from USC on Friday and honored her late father with his emblem stitched onto her sash. The emblem is her late father's Nike sheath logo, which features six segments forming a geometric symbol resembling a sword. The design was introduced in 2003 when Bryant signed with Nike. In an earlier interview with Esquire magazine, Bryant explained that the sword is the naked talent and the sheath is the shell of it, the effort and life experience. The 22-year-old Bryant posted a photo of herself on graduation day, smiling and wearing her USC "Class of 2025" sash. Congratulations poured in on her Instagram post, including from USC basketball star Juju Watkins and WNBA's Sabrina Lonescu, with a "Congratulations and Fight On!" posted by USC Athletics. Natalia graduated from USC's School of Cinematic Arts, with Cum Laude honors. She also posted a TikTok video with three Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters, wearing white dresses and their red graduation sashes – celebrating the big moment. Bryant has been with IMG Models since February 2021.

Paige Bueckers' injury-to-championship path is a blueprint for Juju Watkins

Paige Bueckers' injury-to-championship path is a blueprint for Juju Watkins If Paige could overcome an injury to win a national title, JuJu can do the same. On Sunday, Paige Bueckers and UConn dominated South Carolina to win the national championship. With the win, Bueckers put the bow on a decorated college career by finally earning the title that had eluded her for four years. After leading the Huskies to the Final Four as a freshman and the national championship game as a sophomore, Bueckers suffered an ACL injury that forced her to miss the entire 2022-2023 season. After a year out, she returned to the court in 2023-2024 and took UConn to two more Final Fours before finally winning it all this year. While USC fans were obviously disappointed not to see the Trojans make the Final Four, most of them were likely happy for Bueckers and the Huskies. In addition, the UConn star's path serves as a potential blueprint for USC star Juju Watkins, who suffered a similar ACL injury in this year's NCAA Tournament. Obviously, there is no guarantee that Watkins will lead the Trojans to a national championship upon her return to the court. Bueckers' path shows it can be done, and that it is possible to come back better than ever after an ACL injury. Watkins' status for next season remains very much up in the air. However, USC fans are already looking forward to the day that she is clear to return and suits up in Cardinal and Gold once again.

USC and UCLA both lost to UConn, but Trojans did so with honor

USC women's basketball may have come up short in their quest for a national title in 2024-2025. At least USC fans can take satisfaction in the fact that the Trojans' rivals did not get there, either. At the 2025 Final Four, crosstown foe UCLA was blown out 85-51 by UConn in the national semifinals, ending the Bruins' season. UCLA's season wound up ending the same exact way that USC's did: with a loss to the Huskies. While the Bruins can say that they made it to the Final Four, the Trojans actually put up a far tougher fight against UConn without Juju Watkins than UCLA did at full strength. USC lost by only 14 and was legitimately competitive, down by only five heading into the fourth quarter. UCLA lost by 34 in a game it trailed by 20 at halftime and by 23 after three quarters. Advertisement After watching Friday night's game, USC fans cannot help but wonder "what if?". Had Watkins not gotten hurt, the Trojans would have had a very good shot to take down UConn and advance to their first Final Four since the days of Cheryl Miller. Based on how Friday night's game went, USC may very well have handled its crosstown foe had the two teams met in Tampa. UConn's 82-59 blasting of South Carolina on Sunday in the national championship game also gave us this added fact: USC was the only team to lose by fewer than 15 points to UConn in the 2025 Women's NCAA Tournament. Every other UConn opponent lost by at least 23. USC's effort against UConn in the Elite Eight won't get the national respect it deserves, but everyone in that USC locker room should feel proud of how well they competed ... unlike UCLA. Alas, that is all hypotheticals. But while it was a heartbreaking end to the season for the Trojans, USC fans can at least take satisfaction in knowing that their rivals completely and totally flopped on the sport's biggest stage.
