Nissan Juke hybrid is a bold and polarising compact SUV

Those aren't my words – they're Nissan's. While I'm happy to agree with the first two of the three, the final one may be up for debate. The design of this compact SUV is certainly distinctive and daring, especially in N-Sport guise. Add an eye-catching two-tone yellow and black paintjob into the mix and you're not going to be missed! Priced at £31,995, the car is equipped with a 1.6-litre three-cylinder in-line petrol-electric hybrid engine. The eye-catching vehicle pictured on the moors This engine delivers 143hp, providing reasonably brisk acceleration without setting the pulse racing. Although the Juke Hybrid HEV143 N-Sport is the most powerful version of the Juke, it is not the fastest small hybrid SUV available. It can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 10.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 103mph. It is expected to appeal to daily motorists rather than keen drivers due to its blend of performance and efficiency. The car promises to return fuel economy figures as high as 58.8mpg combined, making it suitable for long journeys. The Juke Hybrid also features an automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The Juke's distinctive shape stands out on city streets, with ultra-narrow headlights and smart new alloys adding a further design flourish. The smart interior features yellow detailing The updated interior has bright yellow accents, and evocative stitching on the alcantara upholstery, while the redesigned dashboard now has larger screens. The Juke's interior feels to have taken a real step up – offering more space, smarter tech, better materials and improved build quality. The 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is a big improvement on the relatively small screen found on previous models, It is intuitive to use and offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Bose stereo system with speakers integrated into the headrests provides crisp sound. The Juke Hybrid offers a boot space of 354 litres, though this is reduced compared to the petrol model due to the hybrid components. With some careful placement of bags and the tent, this was sufficient for a family camping holiday for four. The Juke is slightly more compact than some of its rivals, with rear seats more suitable for children or smaller adults. Storage areas, particularly in the door bins and under the armrest, are on the smaller side. The vehicle has a five-star Euro NCAP rating and includes intelligent emergency braking, lane departure warning and intervention, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, and an optional advanced safety shield with lane assist. The Juke is distinctive from all angles The driving experience might not be the most engaging, but benefits from trustworthy grip levels and accurate steering. The set-up is well tuned for UK roads, being moderately sporty whilst being able to handle uneven surfaces competently. When the weather turns cold, there are some creature comforts to enjoy such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a heated windscreen (available with the optional Heat Pack). All in all, the Juke is easy to live with, offering a well-balanced powertrain, good levels of tech and a practical interior. Its stand-out looks set it apart from rivals. The Lowdown Nissan Juke HEV143 N-Sport Aero PRICE: £31,995 on the road ENGINE: 1.6-litre, three-cylinder in-line petrol-electric hybrid PERFORMANCE: 0-62mph in 10.1 seconds and max speed of 103mph ECONOMY: 58.8mpg and emissions of 109g/km TRANSMISSION: Automatic, two-wheel drive
