Juliah expressed understanding of the feelings of a mother who has lost a beloved child. 'The safety of children, especially boarding school students, must be prioritised to prevent tragedies like this from recurring,' she said. Balance tech use with family harmony, says CM's wife
Published on: Wednesday, August 06, 2025 Published on: Wed, Aug 06, 2025 Text Size: Juliah visits one of the exhibition booths. KOTA MARUDU: Technology should not be a barrier to family harmony but instead be used wisely to strengthen family institutions, said Datin Seri Juliah Salag. Speaking at the district-level WCaRe Reproductive Cancer Awareness Campaign here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister's wife urged communities, particularly women, to strike a balance between digital use and family values. Advertisement Juliah, who is also Mutiara Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) president, stressed the need to uphold face-to-face communication, love, responsibility and respect despite increasing reliance on gadgets and the internet. She cited a 2023 report by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) showing that national Internet penetration had reached 97.4 per cent, with 99.3 per cent of users accessing it via smartphones. While improved rural connectivity offers access to education, health and economic opportunities, she noted it also presents challenges to emotional and family interaction. Juliah welcomed the WCaRe campaign, saying it empowers rural women with essential knowledge on reproductive health, with one in 19 women at risk of breast cancer and one in 40 at risk of cervical cancer. Advertisement She also praised the National Population and Family Development Board's (LPPKN) holistic approach, combining health awareness with education on family values and digital literacy. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? KOTA MARUDU: Mutiara GRS, the charitable organisation of Sabah elected representatives' spouses, continued its community outreach by delivering aid to two Community-Based Rehabilitation Centres (PDK) and five Integrated Special Education Programmes (PPKI) in the district. Its president, Datin Seri Juliah Salag, said the contributions which included food supplies and cash were aimed at easing the burden of the centres and supporting the continued operation of special education institutions. 'We provided food items such as biscuits and other daily necessities, along with a cash contribution of RM100 for each PDK to help with their daily needs,' she told reporters during the organisation's 'Ziarah Amal Tandek' visit to SMK Bandau on Tuesday. With proper training, they can achieve a bright future,' she said. The visit also included an educational tour of the pineapple plantation in Kampung Gana to expose participants to agriculture and entrepreneurship. 'This plantation has strong potential to be promoted as a main centre for pineapple and rubber production in Sabah, which can help improve the livelihood of the local community, especially those in the hardcore poor category,' Juliah said.
