Louisiana sheriff appointed to juvenile justice, delinquency prevention council

BOSSIER PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – House Speaker Mike Johnson's office announced that a north Louisiana chief law enforcement officer will join a national council to prevent juvenile delinquency. Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington was appointed to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention on Monday. The independent organization within the executive branch focuses on how communities can better serve at-risk children and youth. 'I am honored to appoint my good friend, Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington to the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. For the last 14 years, Sheriff Whittington has done exceptional work to make Bossier Parish a safe and thriving community for families,' Speaker Johnson said. 'His leadership in law enforcement has earned national recognition, and I have no doubt he will bring invaluable expertise to the Council. I am confident Sheriff Whittington will represent Bossier Parish and the State of Louisiana with distinction.' The council was established in 1974 by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act to assist with cross-agency coordination of juvenile delinquency programs across federal, state, and local agencies. The Attorney General of the United States is the Chair of the Council, and ten juvenile justice practitioners nationally are appointed, three of whom are appointed by the Speaker of the House. Sheriff Whittington is a lifelong member of law enforcement and was elected Sheriff of Bossier Parish in 2011. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
