Ipswich 0-1 Brentford - the fans' verdict
We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Ipswich and are some of your comments:Ipswich fansRobert: Once again a poor loss. It sums up the season. Another defeat due to lack of quality, fight and commitment across the park. You cannot hide from the fact that we are not good enough. We need to focus in the close season on attracting quality players with a desire to win the Championship and give a good account of ourselves when back in the Premier Story of our season. Plenty of endeavour but lacking in quality. Same old formation and tactics mean we are too easy to play against. Kieran McKenna needs to broaden his horizons and be more Only four wins all season and conceding 77 goals. To say the season has been disappointing is an understatement. The fans deserve better. I hate to say this about my team but we have been outclassed all season and the players have not been good enough or up to the challenge. We need to rebuild a team who can return us back to the Premier League. I'm sure the manager (if he stays) will be planning for the future even The game was tainted by the refereeing decisions. I think Ipswich played well, in particular Julio Enciso and Omari Hutchinson. A draw would have been a fair fansVince: Four wins in a row with Kevin Schade on fire! Could the Bees be heading for Europe? Best wishes to Ipswich - great day out and hope they bounce back!Mel: Lucky to get the points as Ipswich should have won this. We were very exposed in the left-back position in the second half, which let them run riot. On the positive side, we maintained eighth place and the European dream is still alive, just! All the best for next season, Tractor Cheers ref! You were so biased towards us it was embarrassing! Good first half by us but Ipswich clearly the better team in the second half!Mitch: Brentford dominated the match up to the 70 minutes when Matthias Jensen came on. Tactically it drew Ipswich up the field and we were lucky to come away with the win. But, in every season you need some luck.

Julio Enciso's loan has done exactly what it needed to. Will Brighton benefit?
The idea behind Brighton & Hove Albion loaning out forwards Evan Ferguson and Julio Enciso to Premier League rivals in the January transfer window was clear. The appeal lay in the prospect of getting more game time than promised to be the case under head coach Fabian Hurzeler at the Amex Stadium, with the hope it would help them thrive and revive. A secondary benefit would be them returning next season to rejuvenate their careers at the club or elsewhere after boosting their transfer values. Advertisement It has not worked out that way for Ferguson in a reunion at West Ham with Graham Potter, his first head coach at Brighton. No goals in one start and seven substitute appearances will not have done much to restore the confidence of the 20-year-old Republic of Ireland No 9. On the other hand, Enciso's loan to Ipswich has adhered to the purpose. The 21-year-old Paraguayan playmaker has scored two goals and contributed two assists in his last six appearances. Enciso's spell at Portman Road has not been enough to save Ipswich from relegation, but it has provided a reminder of his precocious talent and his habit of scoring spectacular goals. In Saturday's 2-2 draw at Everton, his latest showstopper was greeted with an admiring handshake from beaten England No 1 Jordan Pickford. Brighton fans are familiar with Enciso's ability to strike from distance. An effort against Manchester City in May 2023 was voted goal of the season in the Premier League awards for the 2022-23 campaign and second in FIFA's Puskas award for the best goal worldwide. It came the month after another sweet strike that decided a 2-1 victory at Chelsea. Julio Enciso ™ — Premier League (@premierleague) May 6, 2025 Enciso's exploits have not been confined to the domestic stage. The purple patch for his temporary club was sparked by an eye-catching equaliser for Paraguay away to Colombia in a 2-2 draw in South American qualifying in March. It helped keep his nation firmly on course to reach the 2026 World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico. What a strike from Julio Enciso. 🚀 A 2-2 draw for Paraguay against Colombia, with 73 minutes and a goal for Julio. 🇵🇾 — Ipswich Town (@IpswichTown) March 26, 2025 Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna, speaking after Enciso's goal at Everton, said, as reported by Vavel: 'He's got an incredible showreel for a young player. It's frustrating that we haven't had him for more of this season because he arrived late and then had an injury (knee) pretty soon after coming. That individual quality, that pretty much every team at this level has lots of, can win you points and win you games. Julio is certainly one who can do that.' Advertisement It is tempting to ponder whether Brighton would have been better off keeping hold of the mercurial Enciso, especially after losing Georginio Rutter to an ankle injury in March. They are also missing Joao Pedro, another of the No 10 options. The Brazilian completes a three-match suspension at Wolves on Saturday for a red card in last month's 4-2 defeat at Brentford. The benefit of hindsight, however, camouflages the prevailing circumstances when Enciso was loaned out. Hurzeler highlighted issues over his attitude after he had been left out of the squad for two matches in December. 'His mindset in training,' the German said. 'So, how he trained, how he behaved, how he acted. For me, it's so important to understand that the most important (thing) at this club is the success of the club. 'No individual player is bigger than a club. We have clear values here, clear principles — all the players have to stick to them. Success won't come from individuals shining. Success will come if you stick together and, if you have success, individually you will shine.' Enciso's tendency to be more of an individual than a team player was highlighted in December, when he had eight shots in the opening 39 minutes of a 0-0 home draw against Brentford. At that stage of the season, no player had had more than eight in an entire Premier League match. And Enciso has not prospered so far under Hurzeler, scoring once and assisting once in 16 intermittent appearances across all competitions. Strangely, Enciso could indirectly help his parent club to reach Europe. A point separates Brighton in 10th from Bournemouth in eighth — the position likely to lead to a place in the Conference League next season. This is because of the still complicated picture of how many English teams will qualify for European competitions. A solo run by Enciso set up a goal for Nathan Broadhead in a 2-1 win for Ipswich at Bournemouth in April. Ipswich host in-form Brentford on Saturday. Brentford are above Brighton in ninth spot on goal difference, with Fulham a point behind in 11th. Another telling impact from Enciso to add to two goals and three assists in 11 outings overall would go down well at the Amex. The fight for eighth threatens to go to the wire. Bournemouth host Aston Villa on Saturday, while Fulham are at home to Everton. Brighton entertain league champions Liverpool in the penultimate round of fixtures. They will gain one way or another from Fulham visiting Brentford, and Bournemouth still have to go to Manchester City. Advertisement Brighton are away to Tottenham on the final day, and Brentford are at Wolves. Bournemouth and Fulham finish at home against Leicester and Manchester City respectively. The race is too tight to call. Enciso, meanwhile, is under contract at Brighton until June 2026. Asked after the draw at Everton if there was any chance of a return to Portman Road with Ipswich in the Championship next season, McKenna confirmed: 'No, it's a contractual thing, but there's no option to keep him. He's a big, big talent and he's a Brighton player come the summer.' Whether that is still the case next season remains to be seen, but all things considered, Enciso's loan has worked out pretty well for everyone.

Ipswich news: Opinion - Resilient Ipswich show fight at Goodison
What an evocative experience it was visiting Goodison Park as an away fan on Saturday (even if my view from the away end was compromised by steel rafters and pillars!). The pre-match scenes were exactly what I hoped for, and while the buoyant atmosphere amongst the home fans waned as Town got themselves back in the game, you could easily imagine what a vibrant place it could be for a bigger match. While the new stadium will lack the character of its predecessor, the key is to ensure the existing fanbase give it a soul by creating a new shared history. Stuffing it full of corporate hospitality and pricing out generations of supporters that made Goodison special would be a huge error by the club. As for Ipswich, Saturday's game very much had the feeling of looking ahead to next season. While Julio's Enciso's worldie rightly drew the headlines, it was great to see the likes of Jack Taylor, Conor Chaplin and George Hirst in particular make key contributions – all of whom will likely be key players in 2025-26. While Taylor hasn't necessarily shown that he has the influence to be a regular midfield starter in the Premier League, his second half against Everton gave some insight into what Kieran McKenna sees in the former Peterborough man. The hope is that he can dominate more a level down. Hirst meanwhile demonstrated once again his abilities to lead the line in a way that brings others into the game. His impressive towering header to earn the point was the least his efforts deserved. After a taxing second half of the season, it was great to see us demonstrate the kind of resilience and determination on Saturday that this club has shown consistently in the EFL under McKenna. It will be needed back in the Championship if we are to bounce back at the first time of asking. Find more from Richard Woodward at the Blue Monday Podcast, external

Kieran McKenna rues Ipswich not signing ‘quality' Julio Enciso earlier in season
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna was left to ponder what might have been had Julio Enciso been available for more matches after the Paraguayan scored a brilliant goal in the 2-2 draw at Everton. The 21-year-old joined on loan from Brighton in late January but his appearance at Goodison Park was only his 11th for the club after an interrupted start to life in East Anglia. He has been making up for lost time, with his 30-yard screamer to get his side back in the game at 2-1 his second in four games, but it has come too late to save them from relegation. 'He has an incredible showreel for a young player certainly,' said McKenna, who felt his side were worth their point after George Hirst's 79th-minute equaliser. 'It is in some ways frustrating we've not had him for more of the season as he arrived late and had an injury pretty soon after coming. 'That individual quality which pretty much every team at this level has lots of can win you points and win you games and Julio is certainly one who has that. 'We've enjoyed having him and it is testament to him how he is working for the group because he is a loan player here for a short while and he's not quite been able to get he momentum up that we would have wanted earlier enough in the season. 'He made a big difference for us today, a big difference at Stamford Bridge (where he scored in a 2-2 draw) and Bournemouth and we would have loved to have had him earlier.' Everton boss David Moyes tried to take the positives out of a game they were leading 2-0 thanks to Beto's header, his ninth goal of the season, and a 25-yard swerving effort from Dwight McNeil, his first since September on his 100th appearance after a long injury lay-off. 'I'm disappointed. We never shook Ipswich off really. They were always there or thereabouts,' he said. 'We just couldn't quite get there. We did a lot of good things and we tried some different things to see how players play in different roles. 'I thought we did really well in the opening part of the game, got the goals eventually but the goal just before half-time rocked us a bit and gave Ipswich something to keep going at. We couldn't quite get the third goal.' Everton have dropped 10 points from winning positions when they have led by two or more goals this season and Moyes added: ''We've done that a couple of times but not seen it out. 'The game was always tight. We should have done a little bit better. 'I'm disappointed we didn't win but I think there are a lot of positives in how we're playing, what we're doing and trying to create chances.'
