7 Bay Area events to kick off the weekend

Friday ✊🏾 Juneteenth kickoff: City Hall's celebration of Black excellence centers on the theme "Liberty, Legacy, and Leadership." It's expected to run from 5:30-8pm at 1 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Plaza. 🎷 SF Jazz Festival: This three-day fest features a range of talent, including the Charles Lloyd Sky Quartet and Patrice Rushen, at several rotating venues. Saturday 🎪 Circus Bella: The local ensemble resumes performances at Mesa Park in Bolinas at 2pm with its new show "Hoopla." Times and locations across the Bay Area this season vary. 🎶 Dirtybird: The much-loved music collective known for its funky house beats is hosting a free concert from 1-5pm at Embarcadero Plaza. 🇮🇹 North Beach Festival: More than 200 vendors, local bites, live music and specialty cocktails will be offered 11am-7pm at the neighborhood's annual grand celebration. 🎉 Juneteenth Freedom Celebration: Live performances, 80 vendors and a fashion and hair show will be featured at this year's event, which will take place 11am-6pm on Fillmore between Geary and Fulton Streets.

Tolson to host Juneteenth celebration Saturday
ELKHART — The Tolson Center for Community Excellence will hold its annual Juneteenth Freedom Celebration on Saturday. The Juneteenth Freedom Celebration will take place at the Tolson Center for Community Excellence, 1320 Benham Ave., Elkhart. Food trucks will be onsite for community to purchase food. 'Juneteenth reminds us not only of where we've been but where we're going,' said Breanna Allen, executive director of the Tolson Center. ' SaulPaul joining us perfectly aligns with our mission to uplift, empower, and connect across generations. This is more than an event, it's a movement.' This year's celebration will be elevated by the dynamic presence of Grammy-nominated artist SaulPaul, known worldwide for his inspirational music, storytelling, and message of transformation. The day will be split into two sessions. The Morning Empowerment Session will be held from 9-11 a.m. and is designed for professionals, leaders, and changemakers who are committed to personal growth and community impact. Join SaulPaul for an interactive workshop blending music, storytelling, and real talk. Admmission is $10. Register at The Afternoon Community Celebration will be from 1-5 p.m. The family-friendly event will showcase performances from Tolson Center youth programs, community partners, and a headline performance from SaulPaul. Expect energy, empowerment, and an unforgettable celebration of Black excellence, freedom, and joy. The afternoon celebration is free and open to the public.
