Pick n Pay stands out as the most affordable supermarket for essential groceries, offering some relief for budget-conscious shoppers. Here's how the total cost of the basket stacks up this week: Checkers – R854.85 – R854.85 Pick n Pay – R864.84 – R864.84 Shoprite – R886.84 – R886.84 Woolworths – R911.84 Checkers comes out on top as the most affordable option, with a full basket costing R854.85. Pick n Pay follows at R864.84, while Shoprite and Woolworths are the most expensive options this week at R886.84 and R911.84 respectively. Tiger Brands Plans Special Dividend, Lifts Payout on Profit Gain
Tiger Brands Ltd., South Africa's biggest listed food producer, lifted its interim dividend and said it would also pay a special dividend after profit climbed 34%. The Johannesburg-based maker of Albany bread and Jungle Oats plans an interim dividend of 4.14 rand a share for the six months through March and a special payout of 1.8 billion rand ($100 million), or 12.16 a share, it said in a statement Wednesday. Tiger Brands has also bought back 1.2 billion rand of shares since late February.

South Africa's Tiger Brands' half-year profit rises more than expected
JOHANNESBURG, May 28 (Reuters) - South Africa's Tiger Brands (TBSJ.J), opens new tab half-year earnings rose more than expected on Wednesday, with the country's biggest food producer declaring a special dividend of 12.16 rand. The owner of Jungle Oats and Koo baked beans said its headline earnings per share from continuing operations, a key profit measure in South Africa, rose by 34% to 10.21 rand in the six months ended on March 31, from 763 cents a year ago. SBG Securities had estimated a rise of 24%. Tiger Brands also declared an interim dividend of 415 cents per share.
