JCI Sarawak makes bold splash at ASPAC Mongolia
JCI Area Sarawak members gather for a group photo, taken during a segment of ASPAC Mongolia. MIRI (June 22): The Malaysia Area Sarawak region of Junior Chamber International (JCI) made a bold impression at the 2025 JCI Asia Pacific Conference (ASPAC), which was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia recently. The 17-member delegation comprised the representatives from the Miri, Lutong, Riam, Jalan Tanjung Kidurong, Kuching and Damai chapters. Their achievements across multiple categories positioned JCI Area Sarawak as the highlight of Malaysia's ASPAC this year, with one of the highlights being their victory in the 'English Debate' competition. Of the four-member champion team, three hailed from JCI Area Sarawak: the team captain Lunnie Gan, JCI Kuching president Albert Loi, and JCI Lutong's Sylvester Lim, who served as the team's reserve. The fourth member was Isaac Tan from JCI Petaling Jaya. Following their success in the debate competition, they would advance to represent the Asia Pacific region at the JCI World Congress in Tunisia. In sports, the team emerged third runner-up in the 3×3 basketball competition. JCI Area Sarawak chairman Tan Chin Jie expressed his pride in the team's performance. 'We are incredibly proud of our members from Area Sarawak, who not only represented JCI Malaysia with excellence, but also highlighted the capabilities and cultural heritage of our state with distinction. 'Our participation at ASPAC Mongolia signified our readiness to contribute to the global JCI movement, both in leadership and collaboration. 'Most certainly, it's a reflection of what young Sarawakians are capable of when given the platform to lead and engage globally,' he said. Meanwhile, Lim – also JCI Area Sarawak's director for international affairs – said apart from focusing on the competition, they also coordinated a corporate visit to APU company, Mongolia's largest beverage manufacturer, with the support from JCI Vietnam's Hieu Doan and JCI Mongolia's Uuganbayar. Sarawak's cultural richness also took centre stage during 'Malaysia Night', where the delegation showcased the state's heritage. Tan and his secretary, Michelle Toh, donned traditional Sarawakian attire, while other members of the delegation served up authentic local delicacies that captivated other JCI representatives from across the Asia Pacific.
