Blountstown freshman Bryson White turns heads on the track
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Blountstown freshman, Bryson White took first in the men's 110 hurdles, defeating athletes up to four years older.
Bryson White, a second-year hurdler and Junior Olympian, is making an immediate impact in his first high school track season. However, his athletic journey did not begin with running.
'I started in baseball, and I liked racing my teammates,' White said. 'That's when I really got into track and competing.'
White competed in middle school but took a leap of faith in eighth grade, deciding to try hurdles, an adjustment that ultimately led him to placing 16th out of nearly 70 competitors at the Junior Olympics this past August.
'The hurdle height was a challenge at first,' White said. 'It's important to train your mind to stay focused during the race. You have to push through each hurdle and keep your form.'
Now, as a freshman, White has already achieved major success and has no plans to slow down over the next three years at Blountstown High School.
'I want to accomplish some goals, and break some school records,' he said. 'I just want to be the best.'
