Blountstown freshman Bryson White turns heads on the track

Yahoo17-03-2025

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Blountstown freshman, Bryson White took first in the men's 110 hurdles, defeating athletes up to four years older.
Bryson White, a second-year hurdler and Junior Olympian, is making an immediate impact in his first high school track season. However, his athletic journey did not begin with running.
'I started in baseball, and I liked racing my teammates,' White said. 'That's when I really got into track and competing.'
White competed in middle school but took a leap of faith in eighth grade, deciding to try hurdles, an adjustment that ultimately led him to placing 16th out of nearly 70 competitors at the Junior Olympics this past August.
'The hurdle height was a challenge at first,' White said. 'It's important to train your mind to stay focused during the race. You have to push through each hurdle and keep your form.'
Now, as a freshman, White has already achieved major success and has no plans to slow down over the next three years at Blountstown High School.
'I want to accomplish some goals, and break some school records,' he said. 'I just want to be the best.'

Stephanie White Breaks Silence After Missing Chicago Sky Game

Stephanie White Breaks Silence After Missing Chicago Sky Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When the Indiana Fever took the court at the United Center on Saturday night, they did so without head coach Stephanie White. Advertisement Instead, assistant Austin Kelly stepped in, implementing the game plan that led to a decisive 79-52 victory over the Chicago Sky. On Monday, White addressed reporters in Indianapolis, offering her first public remarks on the circumstances that kept her away and her confidence in the staff she's assembled. 'I thought he (Kelly) was great," White said. "It's not a surprise. When you look at Austin and (assistant coach) Bri (January), both of them are ready to be head coaches in this league. ... They've grown, they've learned, they've taken advantage of their opportunities. And it's not a hesitation at all. If I can't be here, they're ready." White's remarks came after a weekend spent away tending to personal matters, which White briefly spoke on, saying, "It's helpful that we have such a great group that poured into me and helped give me strength. ... Our family's working through a hard time right now." Kelly, the former Sun assistant under White, and Briann January, the defensive stalwart who starred in Indiana's championship run in 2012 as a player, form a coaching tandem brimming with potential. Advertisement Kelly, who transitioned from collegiate roles at UT Arlington and Vanderbilt, earned his first head-coaching win on Saturday. January, who joined the staff in April, has already been instrumental in shoring up perimeter defense and veteran leadership on a young roster. Through eight games, Indiana averages 84.5 points per game while allowing just 76.4, both of which rank third in the WNBA. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (right) and head coach Stephanie Faith Morgan-Imagn Images White's vote of confidence arrives as the Fever aim to right the ship without their star, Caitlin Clark, who has been out since May 24 with a quad injury. White announced Monday that Clark will not play in the Fever's next game. Advertisement Indiana is 2-2 in Clark's absence and 4-4 on the season. Looking ahead, the Fever head on the road Tuesday to face the 5-3 Atlanta Dream, hoping to build on Kelly's success. Caitlin Clark will miss 5th game with quad strain but could soon start 'ramping back up'

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Caitlin Clark will sit out a fifth consecutive game with a quadriceps strain when Indiana visits Atlanta on Tuesday, shifting the focus to whether the Fever star will return against the WNBA champion New York Liberty. Indiana coach Stephanie White stopped short Monday of saying Clark had been cleared for basketball activities, saying the club was ready for the reigning Rookie of the Year to start 'ramping back up.' The Fever initially said Clark would miss at least two weeks, and it has been 16 days since Clark was injured in a 90-88 loss to the Liberty. She finished the game, saying later adrenaline likely allowed her to play with the strain. Clark told reporters last week she was targeting a Tuesday return, but said she wouldn't rush it. White reiterated the patience part Monday. The rematch with the Liberty isn't until Saturday at home, which should give Clark some decent practice time. 'We're going to be smart, and we're going to be cautious and we're going to play the long game and work her back in very intentionally,' White said. Clark is averaging 19 points, 9.3 assists and six rebounds in four games this season. This is the first time in her college or pro career that she's missed games. She averaged 19.2 points and a WNBA-leading 8.4 assists as a rookie. ___
