Goa conclave on mapping India's skill development sets direction for action

Panaji: A joint actionable plan to map India's skilling ecosystem will be created to prepare India's workforce for a green transition, the founder of Just Transition Research Centre (JTRC), IIT Kanpur, Prof Pradip Swarnakar said on Friday. National Skill Development Corporation will support the endeavour. Swarnakar said that the discussions held in Goa with multiple stakeholders will be documented in detail, as a start to the project. He was in Panaji to conduct a workshop, which drew govt officials, academic leaders, international experts, and civil society members who deliberated on building evidence-based and policy-relevant knowledge. IIT Goa director Prof Dhirendra S Katti underlined the significance of skill development in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and electric mobility. The director of Decent Team Work of the International Labour Organization's India office, Michiko Miyamoto, stressed the need to balance economic growth with environmental protection and social inclusion. International Organisation for Migration's India head, Sanjay Awasthi, said, 'Rough estimates suggest there are 600 million internal migrants in the country.
