An email sent to parents says the incident happened near Justice Page Middle School and Washburn High School in south Minneapolis Friday morning. Principals Shannon Tenner and Emily Palmer wrote: "We are writing to share that a scary incident happened near our schools this morning before class started. "A young adult drove by a group of Justice Page students and shot Orbeez gel pellets out the window of a truck, hitting multiple Justice Page and Washburn students." The principals say the suspect has been identified and is not a student at either Washburn or Justice Page. They continue to describe a situation in which a vehicle sidles up before someone opens fire from within – even though using a toy gun – as "very alarming." Orbeez makes water-absorbing beads designed to be fired from splat ball guns, and have been known to cause injury when fired close enough. There have also been reports from other parts of the country of the beads being frozen before firing to cause greater injury. "We are relieved that our students are ok," Tenner and Palmer wrote.
