Jayden-Lee Meek murder: Mother's bail application ruling expected on Monday

The Roodepoort Magistrate's Court today (July 25) heard final arguments in the bail application of Tiffany Meek (31), the mother accused of murdering her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee with the court expected to rule on her bail application on Monday. Jayden-Lee was found dead at a block of flats in Fleurhof, Johannesburg on May 14 where he and his mother lived. His mother said she started looking for him when he did not return home from school om May 13 and reported him missing the next day. She was arrested for her son's murder after a police investigation. Meek's defence lawyer, Noven Naidoo, argued that the state lacked sufficient evidence for the court to deny her bail. During the final cross-examination of the investigating officer, Sergeant Nceba Diko, Naidoo referenced a case involving Likhona Fose, claiming the circumstances were similar and bail was granted in that matter. 'I'm not sure of the circumstances and merits of that case; therefore, I will not comment on that,' Diko responded. Also read: Conflicting statements and OB entries under scrutiny in Meek bail hearing Diko confirmed to Naidoo that some elements of the investigation were still outstanding. 'When my client was arrested, the police's provincial commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, told the press that police don't arrest first and investigate later. He stated the investigation was sufficient. So why is there still missing evidence?' Naidoo asked. Diko replied that the investigation had been sufficient to make an arrest and that the state has strong evidence against the accused. Naidoo also denied the state's claim that Jayden-Lee's uniform was found at Unit 13, where Meek resides. 'My client would say Jayden had two or three sets of uniform, and the uniform found was another set – not the one he was wearing the day he went missing. 'The blood found on the pillow was not fresh, as Jayden suffered from nosebleeds. So it could date back months.' Naidoo maintains that Meek is being framed, alleging that the school bag presented as evidence had been planted. Bail hearing of Tiffany Nicole Meek continues tomorrow

Final evidence and cross-examination are expected to be heard tomorrow, July 23, in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court as the bail hearing of Tiffany Nicole Meek (31) continues. During today's proceedings, state witness and investigating officer Sergeant Nceba Diko, a detective at the Florida Police Station, took the stand again. He worked through Meek's affidavit to assess whether her version of events aligned with the findings of the investigation. Diko disputed claims in Meek's affidavit that sniffer dogs had been led into a security guard's room. • Also read: #JusticeforJayden: Court hears of blunt force trauma and timeline linking mother to crime 'Security never occupied any unit or flat at Swazi's Place, and I don't know which flat the affidavit is referring to,' he said. He also refuted Meek's timeline, stating that the school bag, red jacket, shoes and pillow were found on the day of the incident, not on May 16 as claimed in her statement. However, he confirmed that on May 16, a pair of underwear with no visible blood was observed for the first time by himself and the forensic photographer. A towel containing blood traces was also found in the bathtub, but it was not sent for forensic analysis. • Also read: Mother of Jayden-Lee Meek appears in court for bail hearing amid damning testimony Diko explained that the accused was not arrested immediately because investigations, including the post-mortem, took time to finalise. He further testified that releasing Meek on bail could pose a risk to her safety, the safety of the public, and public peace. He also expressed concern that she might evade trial or interfere with potential witnesses. 'There are still outstanding investigations to be completed. If the accused relocates to her father's home in Durban, I will have difficulty monitoring her in line with the court's conditions,' he said. • Also read: Mother accused of murdering son Jayden-Lee remains in custody as bail hearing is postponed 'Given the community's outcry and ongoing protests, I believe she is safer in custody. South Africans are concerned and seeking answers, and I urge the court to consider this.' Final evidence expected to be submitted includes a community petition handed to Florida police, DNA results, still photographs, and video footage. Until further notice, Meek remains in custody. 'Why did she do it?': Jayden-Lee Meek's paternal family demand answers

The paternal family of Jayden-Lee Meek are demanding answers from his mother, Tiffany, who has been arrested in connection with his murder. The 31-year-old woman made her second appearance in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Friday, 18 July. In it, she detailed how she was 'framed' for her son's death, which took place two months ago. Tiffany is remanded in custody until her next appearance next week. Speaking to the media after Jayden-Lee Meek's mother, Tiffany made her court appearance, his paternal uncle, Owen Meek – the brother of the boy's father, Leandro Meek – spoke on behalf of the family. He said: 'We're standing firm in this trial. We're going to see it through. Tiffany is married into our family. The dad is not in a good space. 'We're happy so far with the outcome of that day. Keeping Tiffany behind bars is a very small win for us.' Meek appeared to the community to direct its anger at Tiffany's family. He continued, 'Let the law take its course. Let's not go on what we assume, what we think, and what we feel. We're putting our confidence in that justice will be served for Jayden. 'We do believe that his mom did love him. We want to know why she did it, and who she did it with…everyone wants answers'. @ Owen Meek, cousin of Jayden-Lee Meek's father, briefs the community on how they feel. #Fyp #CaxonLocalMedia #Journalist #RoodepoortRecord #JaydenLeeMeek #fleurhof #courtappearance #roodepoort #Murdersuspect #JusticeforJayden #JusticeForJaydenLee ♬ original sound – Caxton JHB West Meanwhile, Jayden-Lee Meek's maternal grandmother, Debbie Dunn, claims her daughter is being 'framed' for murder. A week ago, the 31-year-old was arrested, later appearing in court for the first time on Monday. On 14 May, Jayden-Lee's lifeless body was discovered outside his mother's apartment in Fleurhof, Johannesburg. Tiffany had reportedly been staying at her mother's house, and not her own, when the gruesome discovery was made. Image: Via Facebook Speaking in a TikTok video accompanied by her son, Jayden-Lee's grandmother claims she was 'deeply disappointed' in the police investigation as well as the prosecution of her daughter 'over a crime she did not commit'. Dunn claimed that Tiffany's family, friends, and attorney were present at court, but they were unable to access the courtroom where she appeared. She said: 'It is so clear that the police, prosecutors, and activists are working together to ensure that Tiffany was not represented in court on her first appearance and that her loved ones were not inside to give her love and support'. Dunn added: 'We hope that she will be given a fair bail hearing and trial. We have lost faith and hope in the criminal system.' @forever11_jayden we were there, yet the hearing was hush hush and they made sure we were not present.. all this just to further discredit her. ♬ original sound – Debbie Dunn Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 .
