Cardinals opting with youth with new coaching staff additions

The Arizona Cardinals announced a number of coaching staff additions this week as six coaches had departed, either because they landed promotions with other teams or they were not retained. But there was a theme among the additions. The Cardinals are going with young coaches and giving them their first opportunity to do these NFL jobs. Let's have a look: OL coach Justin Frye: Frye is 41 years old and, while he has been an offensive line coach, this is his first NFL stint. he is the oldest assistant to join the staff. DL coach Winston DeLattiboudere: He is 27 years old and has been a defensive line coach but he has never coached in the NFL previously. LB coach Cristian Garcia: He is 30 years old and, while he has been coaching in the NFL since 2021, he has not coached linebackers previously. He played linebacker but has coached defensive backs as an assistant. OLB coach Matt Feeney: Feeney is 33 years old and has been in the NFL as a coach for three years, although he mostly coached defensive backs, although he did coach linebackers at the end of 2022 on an interim basis. Defensive quality control coach Alec Osborne: He is 31 and in the NFL for the first time. While many coaching staffs often have a mix of guys with experience and new positions, the Cardinals have been giving coaches their first time at their current jobs. General manager Monti Ossenfort became a first-time GM. Jonathan Gannon was a first-time head coach when he was hired, while offensive coordinator Drew Petzing and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis were also in those positions for the first time. Israel Woolfork was a first-time quarterbacks coach. Of the coaching staff, the only members to have previously held the same NFL job are assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers, passing game coordinator and receivers coach Drew Terrell (although he was not previously a coordinator at all, he had only been a receivers coach), and tight end coach Ben Steele, All the other assistants were either in the NFL for the first time or in that position for the first time. It is an interesting way to build a staff. So far, it has yielded positive results each year. We will see if that continues in 2025. Ohio State football may lose offensive line coach, Justin Frye

Ohio State football may lose offensive line coach, Justin Frye Ohio State football is coming off one of the most impressive national championship runs in college football history, but that hasn't stopped coaches and players from leaving for greener pastures. We are all well aware of the action taking place in the transfer portal, but the Buckeyes came out relatively unscathed on that front. The coaching staff on the other hand, defensive coordinator, Jim Knowles, is out the door and will now be in charge of the defense for the Big Ten rival, Penn State -- and he may not be the only departure. No coach has earned his keep through the playoff run more than offensive line coach, Justin Frye, and it looks like he has NFL suitors. Ohio State fans kept Frye's feet to the fire all season long due to some perceived recruiting woes and a few wonky games, but there is no question that the injury-depleted offensive line of the Buckeyes was unstoppable when it mattered, and now, unfortunately -- he is interviewing for the same position with the Chicago Bears. I'm sure Ohio State will do what it can to retain Frye, and we must note that nothing is official at this time. We'll keep an eye on this and other offseason news as we head into spring. Report: Bears to interview Ohio State's Justin Frye for OL coach

Report: Bears to interview Ohio State's Justin Frye for OL coach The Chicago Bears are hard at work building out their new coaching staff under Ben Johnson, and they have their eyes on a couple of college coaches for their offensive line coach vacancy. According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears are interviewing Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye for their open position. Biggs also reports that Tulane offensive line coach Dan Roushar is expected to interview as well. Frye has coached in the college ranks for his entire career, beginning in 2007 as a graduate assistant with Indiana. He wound up coaching the offensive line for Temple from 2011 to 2012, Boston College from 2013 to 2017, and UCLA in 2019. Frye became UCLA's offensive coordinator in 2019 while still serving as the offensive line coach through 2021. In 2022, Frye joined Ryan Day's staff as offensive line coach and helped develop players such as Paris Johnson Jr., Dawand Jones, and Luke Wypler, all of whom were drafted in 2023, and Josh Simmons, a top tackle prospect going into the 2025 draft. Frye and the Buckeyes won the College Football Playoff National Championship this past season. Roushar, meanwhile, has an extensive background coaching offensive lines at both the pro and college levels. Currently, he's the offensive line coach at Tulane, but he spent seven years with the New Orleans Saints as their offensive line coach and later, the run game coordinator and tight ends coach. With more names starting to surface, the Bears could be close to finding their next offensive line coach. It will be an important hire for Johnson as he begins his first offseason as Bears head coach.
