This victory marked his second senior major title of the year, following his U.S. Senior Open win last month at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. At Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England, the Irish golfer successfully finished rounds of 67, 65, 65, and 67 for a total score of 16-under 264. He finished three shots ahead of runners-up Justin Leonard and Thomas Bjorn. With this win, he expressed: 'One of the things that myself and my caddie talk about a lot as you get older you reflect on your wins and where you win… Winning here at Sunningdale is very special. It's really nice to win at the great venues of golf.' Harrington's golfing career The golfer cemented his Hall of Fame reputation through his remarkable plays at golf's biggest tournaments. He won three major titles—two British Opens and one PGA Championship—between 2007 and 2008, and reached as high as third in the world rankings during the time when Tiger Woods dominated the sport. This marks Harrington's 11th victory on the PGA Tour Champions. Moreover, this is his third senior major championship, following his 2022 U.S. Senior Open triumph. This year, he finished tied for second in the Senior PGA Championships, another milestone added in his career as well. He now joins an elite group of five players in history to have won both the British Open and Senior British Open, alongside golfers Bob Charles, Gary Player, Tom Watson, and Darren Clarke. 'I'm thrilled to have won, but very satisfied that I've won a Senior Open with my two Opens… The fact that only five people have ever done it is quite special. The 53-year-old beat Justin Leonard and Thomas Bjorn as his final round of 67 took him to 16 under for the tournament. Harrington joins Darren Clarke, Tom Watson, Gary Player and Bob Charles as the only men to win both editions of the Open. He won the Open in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008. It is a third Senior major for Harrington, who also won the US Open in 2022 and in June this year. He also finished tied for second at the Senior PGA Championship after missing out to Angel Cabrera by one stroke. Northern Ireland's Clarke finished tied for 51st after he finished two over for the tournament.

Pádraig Harrington acted out the role of dominant front-runner in claiming the ISPS Handa Senior Open – to add to his US Senior Open success of last month – with an impressive closing round 67 for a total of 16-under-par 264 for a three-stokes winning margin over runners-up Justin Leonard and Thomas Bjorn at Sunningdale. An eagle at the first hole, where he hit his approach to 10 feet, saw the 53-year-old Dubliner – who carried a two-shots lead into the final round – strengthen his position and, in becoming just the fifth player to win both The Open and the Senior Open, Harrington sealed the deal in emphatic fashion to add to his brilliant career CV that has seen him win three Majors and, now, three senior Majors. Masters champion Rory McIlroy was among those who turned up at the classic heathland course in Berkshire to watch Harrington's masterclass. Of adding another championship to his roll-of-honour, Harrington remarked: 'As you get older, you realise a lot of things is legacy and what you've done. You want to do things that stand out, and having won a real Open, coming out, winning the Senior Open, it adds a validation. It's certainly satisfying to do it, to extend your career that way. I'm kind of on a high of winning, but then there will be that deep sense of satisfaction knowing that you've done both. 'And especially you come to this stage [of my career], there's only a certain window. You know, you can win later on as a senior but the window, they say, sort of up to about 55, 56, so you want to get it done. And having had a couple of second places, I didn't want to leave it too long,' said Harrington, who won €380,000 for this victory and moved to second on the PGA Champions Tour order of merit after his second senior Major of the season. The 21-year-old Englishwoman – with veteran Irish caddie Dermot Byrne on the bag – shot a closing round 68 for a total of 21-under-par 267, which gave her a three-strokes winning margin over South Korea's Hyo Joo Kim, with Ireland's Leona Maguire finishing in tied-16th. Woad's first pay-day as a professional brought her a winner's cheque for €255,554.

PADRAIG HARRINGTON stormed to a sensational Senior Open victory on Sunday - landing his second senior major title of the season in style. The three-time major champ took a two-shot lead into the final round at Sunningdale, and never looked back as he closed out a dominant wire-to-wire win. 2 2 He got off to a flyer with a stunning eagle at the first, before picking up birdies at six and nine to keep the momentum going. The Dubliner's only blemish on the front nine came at the eighth, where he dropped a shot with a bogey. But the Stackstown golf legend hit back in style to see out his second senior major title of the year after his win at the US Open in Colorado last month. He then carded another birdie at the 14th to stretch his lead to three shots over Justin Leonard, holding firm as the pressure mounted from the American. And the 2024 World Golf Hall of Fame inductee then held his nerve as after a bogey on 17, prior to finding a tough lie in the bunker on his approach. But the chasing Leonard couldn't make a par putt as Harrington maintained the three-shot lead heading up the last with caddie Ronan Flood. 53-year-old Harrington negotiated the last with a par to finish on -3 for his final round for a sixteen under par total as he lapped up the applause from a huge crowd in Berkshire. He finished three-strokes ahead of Thomas Bjorn and Justin Leonard, who signed-off for a total of -13 at Sunningdale. It's was his third senior major after wins at the 2022 and 2025 US Open Championships. He joins Darren Clarke and Christy O'Connor Jr as the only men from the Emerald Isle to win the Senior Open Championship crown. There was an overall purse of $2.85m on offer- - and a first prize of $447,800 for Harrington.
