IUML to remain in DMK alliance in T.N. and UDF in Kerala, says party's national president Kader Mohideen
The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will continue to be a part of the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala for the 2026 Assembly elections in both States, party national president K.M. Kader Mohideen said in Chennai on Thursday (May 15, 2025).
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the IUML's national general council meeting, Mr. Mohideen reiterated the party's support for the DMK government. 'The party will always stand firm with the 'Dravidian model' government in Tamil Nadu. In Kerala, the UDF will form the government in the next year's elections, and IUML MLAs will be part of the Cabinet,' he said.
In the council meeting, Mr. Mohideen was elected as the national president of the party for the third time. The party also appointed office-bearers to various posts in its national general council for a four-year term.
Mr. Mohideen said the party had made some changes to its organisational structure to expand its footprint across the country. A committee has been formed to strengthen the structure and launch a membership drive.
IUML national general secretary and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly P.K. Kunhalikutty said the party will continue to work with 'secular parties'.
The national general council also passed a resolution condemning the terror attack on innocent civilians in Pahalgam and appreciating the efforts of the Indian Armed Forces during 'Operation Sindoor'.
In another resolution, it thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for taking steps to establish a public library in Tirunelveli in the name of IUML's late leader Muhammad Ismail, popularly known as Quaid-E-Millat. It also thanked him for resolving the long-pending demand to do away with the periodic renewal of minority status for educational institutions, and for announcing the construction of a new 'Haj House' near Chennai Airport.
