Secure, nurturing spaces key to tribal girls' education: Arunachal Guv

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) said that providing a secure and nurturing space would help remove the barriers that often prevent young tribal girls from continuing their education. Inaugurating the 72-room Krishna Kumari Tribal Girls' Hostel of Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) in Namsai, the Governor said that by providing a secure and nurturing space, the hostel facility would help remove the barriers that often prevent young tribal girls from continuing their education, be it distance, safety, or economic hardship. He said that the inclusive infrastructure, like a hostel for tribal girls, fulfills the need and also opens doors to their dreams. The Governor also distributed laptops to 55 students from various courses, who had demonstrated exceptional academic performance. While congratulating the students who received laptops, Lt. General Parnaik said that it is a method of empowerment. He said that a laptop is a key to knowledge and advised the students to treat it as a genuine friend, guide, and philosopher, as it would enrich their knowledge and improve their articulation. Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein also attended the inaugural ceremony. He said that the laptops, provided to the students, are more than just devices, they are tools of empowerment that would open doors to learning, opportunity, and a brighter future for our students. 'In today's world, digital access is essential to growth, and I'm proud to support initiatives that prepare our youth for success. Deeply appreciate the Arunachal University of Studies for creating such thoughtful initiatives that empower students not just academically, but holistically,' the Deputy CM said. The Krishna Kumari Tribal Girls' Hostel has been built at a cost of Rs 6 crore. It comprises 68 twin-sharing rooms and 4 single-occupancy rooms, offering safe, hygienic, and fully-equipped boarding facilities. The hostel provides nutritious meals, uninterrupted Wi-Fi, 24-hour power backup, and a secure environment, ensuring that students from the tribal communities of the Northeast can pursue their education with focus and peace of mind. The laptop distribution was part of the University's 'Students and Alumni Upgrade Programme', aimed at supporting academic excellence and digital empowerment.

Arunachal Guv bats for enhanced marketing of SHG-made products

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (retd) on Friday emphasised on better marketing of the products produced by the Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The Governor underlined the need for dedicated SHG Product Marketing Hubs in key towns, including Itanagar, Ziro, Tezu, Pasighat, Namsai, Aalo, Bomdila, and Tawang. He said that the Government can provide the infrastructure, but the leadership and ownership must come from the SHGs. The hubs must become vibrant SHG Bazaars, windows into the creativity and strength of our rural women, the Governor said. The Governor, along with the first lady of the state, Anagha Parnaik, interacted with members of SHGs from across the state during a special event held at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, on Friday. Organised by Raj Bhavan in collaboration with the Arunachal State Rural Livelihood Mission under the Department of Rural Development, the event served as a platform to celebrate the spirit of 'Lakhpati Didis', women who are transforming their lives and communities through enterprise, resilience, and vision. He asked them to embrace technology, improve packaging and branding, learn digital marketing, and take Arunachal's products from local to global. The Governor inspired the women to be proud entrepreneurs, urging them to register their ventures, build group brands, and actively participate in exhibitions across the state and the country. Highlighting the importance of innovation rooted in tradition, he encouraged them to make the best use of local resources, like bamboo, wild fruits, herbs, recycled materials, and textiles, blending traditional knowledge with modern techniques. He envisioned the rise of a strong 'Made in Arunachal' identity. Lt. General Parnaik advised the SHGs to coordinate with cooperative societies to identify markets within and outside the state. He assured provisions of working office and market areas in districts with assistance from the Deputy Commissioners and the administration. The Governor also called upon SHGs to the 'Train the Trainers' initiative to build a cadre of Master Didis who can mentor other SHGs in essential skills like business management, accounting, hygiene, packaging, and customer service. He encouraged them to document their journeys, stories of struggle, growth, and success, to inspire others and contribute to a proposed 'Voices of Change' series, which would capture the spirit of grassroots development in Arunachal. Recognising that most SHG members are mothers, the Governor called on them to play an active role in society, especially in combating drug abuse and tuberculosis, promoting hygiene and sanitation, and ensuring every child completes their basic education. The Governor affirmed that the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to empower Lakhpati Didis is already taking shape in Arunachal Pradesh. He said that the SHGs of Arunachal Pradesh are the living proof that this transformation is real, women creating wealth with dignity, driving economic change from the grassroots, and laying the foundation for a Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat.

Arunachal Guv urges legislators to focus on land reforms, women empowerment

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd) on Thursday urged legislators to prioritise land reforms, enact robust legislation for solid waste management, hygiene, and sanitation, and promote policies that truly empower women, upholding their rights, and increasing their participation in public life. Inaugurating the golden jubilee celebrations of the state legislative assembly at DK Auditorium, the Governor said that the people faced the uphill task of building a state virtually from scratch, amidst rugged mountains, scattered habitations, and challenging terrain, but through vision, perseverance, and people-centric legislation, they have ensured that Arunachal Pradesh did not follow the path of instability and insurgency that troubled some of the sister states in the northeast. Instead, we chose peace, inclusivity, and unity in diversity, he said. The Governor said that today, people are witnessing a transformative phase in the state's evolution, marked by better administrative outreach and improved service delivery. Governance is becoming more responsive, more citizen-centric, and more in tune with the needs of the people, he said. The Governor, while citing landmark legislation, said that the Assembly has played a pivotal role in this transformation, not merely by passing laws, but by shaping a vision for the future. He called for decisive steps toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring environmental sustainability, poverty alleviation, gender equality, and the empowerment of every segment of society. Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte, and Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor also addressed the gathering, sharing their reflections on the Assembly's journey and aspirations for its future. The Chief Minister in his post on the X said: '50 years of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, a legacy built on the voices of the people, shaped by duty, and strengthened through democratic resolve.' 'As the Hon'ble Governor of Arunachal, Lt Gen KT Parnaik Ji (Retd), honoured the Golden Jubilee celebrations, it was more than a milestone, it was a reminder. Power means nothing without purpose. Know your responsibilities, only then will your words have value. Let this not just mark a milestone, but ignite a renewed commitment to principled leadership,' Khandu said. Unveiling the Golden Jubilee Commemoration Plaque, the Governor officially marked the commencement of the 45-day-long celebratory events, honouring 50 years of legislative excellence and the robust democratic spirit of the state. On the historic occasion, the Chief Minister released the official theme song of the Golden Jubilee, while the Deputy Chief Minister launched the commemorative badge symbolising the occasion.
