Parents told KABC-TV that the teen's dad was at the school to pick up his son when he witnessed the crash. Five other people came forward with non-life-threatening injuries from the crash, the fire department later stated. Among them are another teen male, an unidentified minor and three adults. "This is a very tragic situation," said LAFD Capt. Adam Vangerpen, CBS affiliate KCBS-TV reported. "This is hard on all the witnesses who witnessed this. There's a lot of kids getting out of school and getting ready for summer." The LAPD and Campbell Hall did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. Zora Elling has set the record at Irvine Valley College (IVC) after receiving her Associate in Science for Transfer degree in Mathematics, according to a Facebook post shared by the school. IVC described Zora as 'a math whiz, a STEM advocate and a total inspiration.' She plans to attend the University of California in Irvine this fall. 'The Elling family continues to redefine what's possible—one remarkable milestone at a time. 💙💛,' school officials wrote. Zora said getting her record-setting degree was 'a bit scary' but also 'really fun,' according to ABC affiliate KABC-TV. "I don't really care about breaking the record, I just wanted to take the math classes," the 10-year-old explained. Zora, who has yet to graduate from high school, will transfer to UC Irvine, where she plans to major in math, this fall, according to The Orange County Register. Christina Chow, Zora's mom, said her 10-year-old daughter has long been resilient. 'As parents, you always just try to figure out what it is they like and support them,' she explained. 'For Zora, it's always been pets and reading and math.' This is the third straight year that the record has been broken, having been previously set by Zora's siblings Athena and Tycho. Athena was just 11 years old when she set the last record in May 2024, earning an associate's degree in liberal arts. Older brother Tycho was also 11 when he set the record in 2023. His birthday took place within days of his graduation, while Athena's was seven months away. Athena is currently taking more classes at IVC, while Tycho is preparing to graduate from UC Irvine this month with a bachelor's in mathematics, according to KABC-TV. Tycho reportedly plans to enter the University of Southern California's Ph.D. program in August. 79-Year-Old Army Veteran in ‘Frail' Health Dies After Being Dragged During Carjacking, Hours Before Meeting Family for Dinner
James Norman, 79, was killed as a result of the injuries he sustained from a carjacking, according to the police Authorities said Norman had been vacuuming the back of his car when the carjacker got in the driver's seat and started dragging him along Officers eventually tracked down the suspect, Ryan Hewitt, 29, who was arrested and booked on charges of carjacking and murderA grandfather and Army veteran was killed after a carjacking incident in California — just hours before he was supposed to meet his family for dinner. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced via a press release that James Norman, a 79-year-old Corona resident, was the victim in the attempted robbery of his SUV, which took place on Monday, May 12. Authorities said deputies from the Norco Sheriff's Station were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. local time to a business along Hidden Valley Parkway, where they spoke with witnesses and reviewed video surveillance footage regarding the incident. Members of the Corona Police Department eventually located a man, identified as Norman, 'east of the initial incident.' They said he was 'suffering from traumatic injuries consistent with being ejected from a vehicle.' Authorities told KABC-TV and KTLA that Norman had been vacuuming the back of his Chevrolet Trailblazer when a suspect got into the driver's seat and drove off, leaving the owner dangling from the SUV's back door. Norman was allegedly dragged about a half-mile up the road before he was eventually ejected from the vehicle, the police told the outlets. After he was found, Norman was "transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased," the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said, per the release. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. Once located by police, Norman was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators determined that he had died due to the injuries he had sustained from the carjacking, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said, per the release. After members of Riverside County Sheriff's Office Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation, they were able to track down Norman's SUV in Riverside before detaining a man identified as 29-year-old Ryan Hewitt, who was found near the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Tyler Street. Upon further investigation, the sheriff's office said Hewitt, also a Corona resident, was 'arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for carjacking and murder.' Although the Riverside County Sheriff's Department does not believe there are any other suspects involved in the incident, they said that the investigation into this case is 'active and ongoing.' Norman's daughter, Nicole Lauritsen, told KABC-TV that her father was an Army veteran who had been preparing to meet her and her husband for dinner that night. She said her father 'probably' stopped at an ARCO station 'to clean his car.' She added that 'he was probably waiting for us to call him and say, 'Hey dad, we're on our way now and we're going to come get you.' ' "He didn't have his hearing aids in, so I'm guessing he didn't hear with the vacuum on, and all of a sudden, the car is just backing up," Lauritsen told the outlet. "He was too old and frail to get out before the door slammed on him." Lauritsen told the outlet that she received a call from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department telling her that her dad had 'been in an accident,' and they needed her help to track down his phone. She then told them she had placed an AirTag in the vehicle as a way to keep an eye on her father — something that helped the police track down the SUV and catch the suspect. "I just hope he went quickly and I'm grateful for the people — and I hope to meet them — that surrounded him and protected his body so he wasn't just out in the middle of the road," Lauritsen told KABC-TV. In a GoFundMe created by Norman's family to raise funds for his funeral, he was described as someone who 'lived a modest, basic life, but also an adventurous life.' His family also said, 'He will be remembered for his resilience, his love of life, and his deep commitment to his family.' Read the original article on People

'Tesla Road Rage Guy' Was Paroled After Calif. Attacks. Now Police Say He's at It Again — in Another State
Nathaniel Walter Radimak, previously imprisoned for multiple violent road rage incidents in California, was arrested in Hawaii on accusations he assaulted two more people in a road rage incident The altercation began when an 18-year-old told Radimak to slow down while he was driving, police say Radimak, dubbed the "Tesla road rage guy" on social media, was on parole after recently being released from prison in August 2024 A man previously imprisoned and paroled after a series of violent road rage attacks where he assaulted several people in Southern California, was arrested in Hawaii on accusations of another road rage incident. Nathaniel Walter Radimak, 39, was speeding in a gray Tesla on May 7, when he allegedly exchanged words with an 18-year-old who was with her mom in a parked car, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing the Honolulu Police Department. Radimak then got out of his vehicle and allegedly assaulted the 18-year-old and her 35-year-old mother before fleeing the scene, police said. He was arrested on charges of third-degree assault, unauthorized entry into a vehicle and contempt of court, per the outlet. Diane Ung, the mother involved in the incident, told KABC-TV that she was teaching her teenage daughter how to parallel park when Radimak's Tesla sped past them. Ung alleged to the outlet that Radimak almost clipped her daughter with his car, and in response, the daughter yelled out, "Slow down." Surveillance video showed the Tesla driver make a U-turn and yell at the 18-year-old whose baby was asleep in the car, KABC-TV reported. Ung told the outlet that Radimak demanded she repeat herself before reaching in the car and punching her daughter in the face. Ung got out of the car to defend her daughter, she told the outlet. 'I had a coffee in my hand, my iced coffee from McDonald's, threw it at his car and he came running across the street, struck me like a Superman punch right inside my face,' Ung said, adding that she fell to the ground before Radimak took off in his car. Radimak's recent arrest comes less than a year after he was released from prison for attacking eight people with a metal pipe in Southern California in 2023 in confrontations that began when he was in his Tesla, CBS Los Angeles reported. He was sentenced to five years in prison but was released less than a year later. Video surveillance captured Radimak's attack in Glendale, Calif., on Jan. 11, 2023, when he stopped his car in traffic, got out and struck another car with a pipe, the outlet reported. Other victims had similar stories of a man in a Tesla who would randomly attack their vehicles with a pipe. He was dubbed 'Tesla road rage guy' on social media. Gloria Allred, an attorney representing several of the Los Angeles victims, told KABC-TV that the latest alleged attack was inevitable, adding that Radimak could be extradited to California for violating his parole.'This is someone who apparently remains dangerous, who has not learned his lesson,' Allred told the local outlet. Police records list Radimak in custody with charges pending, the outlets reported. It's not clear if Radimak has an attorney and could not immediately be reached by PEOPLE. An Orange County high school student was stabbed in the heart. Now a 15-year-old is accused of murder
The Orange County district attorney's office has charged a Santa Ana High School student with murder and assault in the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old classmate during a fight after school that also left two other students injured. The 15-year-old, who was not identified because he is a minor, is also facing two counts of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing the two other classmates earlier this week. The teen and his 17-year-old brother turned themselves in to police on Wednesday, hours after the deadly incident in front of Santa Ana High School, according to authorities. Santa Ana Police Officer Natalie Garcia said the brothers were questioned by investigators and then transported to juvenile hall, where they were booked. She said the 17-year-old remains in custody. The incident occurred at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, when Santa Ana School Police officers reported a stabbing that occurred during a fight in front of Santa Ana High School. At least three male students, ages 14, 15 and 16, were found with stab wounds and taken by paramedics to a hospital. Prosecutors said the 14-year-old boy who died was stabbed in the heart and was identified by authorities as Armando Morales of Santa Ana. His family created a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral expenses. Misael Morales wrote on the site that his brother was a happy and smart kid who was known for making people laugh. Jazmin Delgado, the victim's cousin, echoed those words in an interview with KABC-TV. 'He was just always a happy kid and always loved to help and was just an amazing little kid,' Delgado told the station. Armando's family said the teen was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They said he was stepping in to help his friends when he was stabbed. What sparked the confrontation remains under investigation by police, who allege those involved in the fight, with exception of the victim, were affiliated with gangs.
