DOJ worker faces capital murder charge for allegedly slipping abortion drug into pregnant girlfriend's drink
A Justice Department worker was charged with capital murder for allegedly slipping an abortion drug into his pregnant girlfriend's drink without her consent, forcing her to lose her baby, police said. Justin Banta, a 38-year-old information technology staffer, was taken into custody Friday following an incident that unfolded at a coffee shop in Tarrant County, Texas, last October, according to the Parker County Sheriff's Office. "The victim reported that her boyfriend intentionally added 'Plan C,' (commonly known as the abortion drug) to her drink in order to force her to have an abortion without her knowledge or consent," police said. In addition to a capital murder charge from the Texas Rangers, Banta was booked on one count of tampering with physical evidence. The Justice Department did not immediately respond Tuesday to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. Texas Man Arrested For Fatal Beating Of Mother During 'Exorcism': Police The victim told investigators that she and Banta were in a "romantic relationship" in September 2024 when she discovered she was pregnant, the Parker County Sheriff's Office said. Read On The Fox News App "The victim informed Banta of the pregnancy, who proposed to cover the cost [of] an abortion and suggested they order the 'Plan C' online. The victim informed Banta of her desire to keep the baby," police added. "On Oct. 17, 2024, when the victim was approximately six-weeks pregnant, she went for a sonogram, where she learned the baby had a strong heartbeat, displayed good vital signs and was said to be healthy by her doctor." The woman said she then met Banta at a coffee shop later that day. Charging documents said Banta gave the victim a drink he purchased prior to her arrival, KDFW reported, adding that security camera footage showed she consumed the entire beverage. "The next day, the victim stated she began to suffer from extreme fatigue and heavy bleeding, prompting her to visit the emergency room. The victim reported she lost her baby on Oct. 19, which she believed was a result of the drugs Banta had previously placed in her drink at the coffee shop without her permission," according to the Parker County Sheriff's Office. Suspect Accused Of Stabbing Texas Man 55 Times Identified By Bloody Shoe Print Police said they interviewed Banta and collected his cell phone as evidence. During the interview, Banta admitted to buying the abortion drugs on his phone and said he knew investigators wanted to talk to him about the woman's miscarriage, according to KDFW. "Sheriff's investigators believe Banta, who works at the IT Department of the U.S. Department of Justice, later accessed the phone remotely and performed a 'reset,' thereby deleting crucial evidence related to the case," the sheriff's office said. Banta was released from the Parker County Jail on Friday after posting a $500,000 bond for the capital murder charge and a $20,000 bond for the evidence-tampering charge, KDFW article source: DOJ worker faces capital murder charge for allegedly slipping abortion drug into pregnant girlfriend's drink

Family says North Texas man was killed by car driven by his best friend
The man who was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident May 30 in west Fort Worth has died, according to his family. Daniel Lester was a beloved brother and father, and his family is 'shattered by grief' at the unexpected loss, his sister Presley Lester said in a GoFundMe. Daniel Lester, 30, died June 1 in the intensive care unit at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office website. He was on life support following the accident, KDFW-TV reported, and his family chose to donate his organs. Officers were called to the hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Clifford Street and Western Trade Drive shortly after 11 p.m. They found Lester, who had been been struck by a car. Information from a witness helped officers find the suspect's vehicle, police said. Thirty-six-year-old David Hall was arrested Saturday and faces a charge of collision involving serious bodily injury, according to court records. Presley Lester told KDFW that Hall and her brother were best friends. Another friend who saw the accident told Daniel Lester's family that a truck narrowly missed hitting Daniel's car. Daniel got out of his car to confront the driver, and Hall was also at the scene. The driver of the truck fled, KDFW reported. Hall started to give chase and hit Daniel Lester in the process. 🚨 More top stories from our newsroom: → Warrant: Stranger shot 3 and 'walked away calmly' → Tarrant County approves new commissioners precincts → Woman's body pulled from Trinity River [Get our breaking news alerts.] Hall's attorney, MarQuetta Clayton, was not immediately available for comment Wednesday afternoon. Judge presiding in case of slain Texas teen Austin Metcalf targeted in alleged doxxing hoax; FBI investigating
The Texas judge who reduced the $1 million bond for 17-year-old Austin Metcalf's accused killer was targeted in a doxxing hoax, KDFW reported. The Collin County Sheriff's Office, in coordination with the FBI, is investigating the alleged doxxing of Collin County Judge Angela Tucker, who agreed to significantly reduce Frisco track meet stabbing suspect 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony's bond. 'Due to the nature of the situation, we are coordinating with the FBI and our Fusion Center to monitor for any concerning rhetoric or propaganda that could incite violence,' the sheriff's office told KDFW. Doxxing, defined as a form of cyberbullying, involves publicly posting someone's personal information without consent. This type of harassment is illegal in the state of Texas if it involves posting another person's private information without consent with the intent to cause harm or to incite harm against them, according to the Texas Penal Code. If someone is harmed during a doxxing event, it also becomes a felony in Texas. 4 Austin Metcalf was stabbed to death at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025. Meghan Prall Metcalf/Facebook Local law enforcement officials told KDFW some court staff and concerned citizens reported that people were publishing Judge Tucker's address on social media after she agreed to reduce Anthony's bond, which was initially set at $1 million. 'Our main priority remains ensuring the judge's safety, and appropriate security measures have been implemented,' the Collin County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. Anthony was released from jail after Tucker lowered his bond to $250,000. Tucker, who presided over a bond reduction hearing, claimed his was set 'too high for someone with no criminal history.' 4 Karmelo Anthony is charged with first-degree murder. Frisco Police Department Anthony allegedly killed Metcalf over a seating dispute during a high school track meet in Frisco April 2. He was freed from the Collin County Jail after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000. He is charged with first-degree murder. Anthony reportedly confessed to stabbing Metcalf when he was arrested by a school resource officer at Kuykendall Stadium in the minutes after the attack. When one officer told another he had the alleged stabbing suspect in custody, Anthony apparently said, 'I'm not alleged. I did it,' according to an arrest report. Anthony also asked the officers if Metcalf was 'going to be OK' and asked if what happened could be considered 'self-defense.' The Metcalf family has also fallen victim to disturbing incidents since their son's death. 4 The attack took place during the UIL District 11-5A championship track meet at Kuykendall Stadium. @Jeff Metcalf/Facebook Jeff Metcalf, the father of the slain track star, told Fox News Digital his home was swatted hours after a heated press conference hosted by the spokesman for the family of Anthony. Frisco Police confirmed there have been at least three swatting calls made at homes linked to the Metcalf family this month. Swatting is when a 911 call is made, usually to report a fake violent crime, to get police and sometimes even SWAT teams, to respond to an address given by the caller. It has increasingly been used as an intimidation tactic to target high-profile individuals and political rivals. Anthony's family has also been targeted since Metcalf's death, and Anthony was moved to an 'undisclosed location' for his own safety, according to a group representing his family. 4 Austin's twin brother, Hunter, and his mother choked back tears as they tried to explain the devastation they felt. Fox News Next Generation Action Network (NGAN), the group representing the Anthony family, shared a news release saying the threats included people loitering and taking photos of the Anthony family's current address, unwanted food deliveries that NGAN said were 'made to disturb and harass the family' and a mailing of Metcalf's obituary to the home, which was also described as 'disturbing.' 'We are sharing images and documentation of the threats the family has faced this past weekend to make the public aware of the dangerous atmosphere that has been created — an atmosphere fueled by organized hate, systemic racism and intentional misinformation,' the group said. 'It is both heartbreaking and infuriating to see the depths of hate and bigotry still alive and well in our society,' NGAN President Dominique Alexander said. 'No family should have to live under siege simply because they are demanding their constitutional rights. 'We will not be silent, and we will not back down. We are committed to doing whatever is necessary to protect this family and to ensure that justice is pursued without intimidation or fear.' The Frisco Police Department told Fox News Digital, 'Our department does not have any reported cases involving the Anthony family being threatened.' Jeff Metcalf has tried to tone down the political rhetoric since the April 2 stabbing. He previously told Fox News, 'I want to clarify something right off to start because I've already heard some rumors and gossip. This was not a race thing. This is not a political thing. 'Do not politicize this. It's not … this is a human being thing. This person made a bad choice and affected both his family and my family forever.' A spokesperson for the FBI confirmed to Fox News Digital that the agency is working with the Frisco Police Department on the doxxing incident but deferred to the Frisco Police Department or Collin County Sheriff's Office for more details about the investigation. Neither organization was immediately available for Fox News Digital's request for comment.
