Japan pledged to buy Boeing jets and other goods as part of its bilateral trade deal with the U.S., according to a White House official. © Reuters KEN MORIYASU WASHINGTON -- Japan has committed to stepping up purchases of American airplanes, defense equipment, and rice and other agricultural products as part of its trade deal with the U.S., the White House said on Wednesday. Tokyo promised to buy 100 Boeing airplanes, purchase $8 billion in agricultural and other products, and increase defense procurement from U.S. companies by about $3 billion to $17 billion, the White House confirmed to Nikkei Asia. As part of the deal, Japan will boost rice imports from the U.S. by 75%.
