Pulaski County man arrested in 2008 child sexual abuse case
PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. — A man from Crocker, Missouri, was arrested after being accused of sexually abusing a child sometime between 2008 and 2009 when he was in kindergarten. The suspect, Daniel Gaines, was charged with first-degree statutory sodomy with a child who was less than 14 years old. His bond is set at $250,000, cash or surety only. According to online court documents, in April 2013, charges were initially filed against Gaines in an investigation into the alleged child abuse, but the prosecutor dismissed the case around January 2015 after the venue was changed to Phelps County. In November 2024, Gaines was being investigated for allegedly uploading and distributing child pornography on the messaging app KIK in June. This investigation revealed conversations Gaines had with another user where he discussed sexually assaulting a child. One message read, 'At 18, I was babysitting for some people who had two 2 yo sons from prior relationships…they decided they weren't going to pay me the way they promised…so I took my payment out on the 2 yo boys.' Camden County area damage left behind after Tuesday night storms The detective contacted Gaines at his residence on June 2, 2025. Gaines told the detective that the content in his KIK conversations was all fantasy and not based on truth. He claimed he only collected child pornography and took part in perverse conversations to report users on Telegram and KIK. However, court documents state that Gaines did not provide an example of him reporting said content. The detective then contacted the victim, who detailed the sexual abuse. The victim said that sometime in 2008 or 2009, when he was five years old, Gaines sexually assaulted him on two separate occasions at a mobile home in Crocker. The victim claimed he felt the system failed him since the initial case was dropped by the prosecuting attorney without just cause, court records state, and he wants Gaines to be held accountable. The probable cause statement notes that Gaines is currently homeless and has been accused of sexually assaulting family members. Gaines' next court appearance is a counsel status hearing scheduled for June 11. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Disease-Free Coconut Nurseries In Papua New Guinea To Support White Copra Revival And Rural Livelihoods
Press Release – Pacific Community – SPC KIK Managing Director, Mr Alan Aku said the nurseries are a direct response to the challenges facing PNGs coconut industry, especially the damage caused by Bogia Coconut Syndrome. Three new coconut nurseries commissioned in Papua New Guinea (PNG) will provide disease-free, high-yield coconut seedlings to support farmers in replanting efforts, particularly those impacted by Bogia Coconut Syndrome (BCS), as part of broader efforts to revive the country's white copra market and strengthen rural livelihoods. Located in Malala (Bogia District, Madang Province), and in Viviran (Gazelle District) and Tabuna (Kokopo District) in East New Britain Province, the nurseries are part of the broader Agri Value Chain Finance (AVCF) Facility implemented by Kokonas Indastri Koporesen (KIK) with support from the Pacific Community (SPC) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) through the ACP Business-Friendly Programme, funded by the European Union and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). KIK Managing Director, Mr Alan Aku said the nurseries are a direct response to the challenges facing PNG's coconut industry, especially the damage caused by Bogia Coconut Syndrome. BCS is a plant disease affecting coconut palms and other palm species and is a major concern for PNG's agriculture and food security, as coconuts are a key crop for livelihoods and exports. ' By investing in clean, resilient planting materials and working with partners on financing and market access, we are not only restoring production but empowering our farmers to move from survival to success,' said Mr Aku. At the nursery launch in East New Britain, SPC's Land Resources Division Deputy Director, Ms Florence Rahiria, emphasised the long-term value of this initiative. 'These nurseries will not only provide disease-resistant, climate-resilient planting materials, but also serve as training and demonstration hubs, offering farmers direct access to technical support and modern farming knowledge,' Ms Rahiria stated. ' This integrated approach combining production, finance, and market linkages is helping transform the coconut industry from subsistence to enterprise. On behalf of SPC, I extend heartfelt thanks to the Government of Papua New Guinea, the leadership of KIK, our partners at the National Development Bank and Coconut Resource Limited, and the resilient farmers and communities who continue to inspire us,' she said. The Malala nursery is especially significant for farmers in Bogia District, where BCS has devastated coconut plantations. In addition to providing new planting material, the nurseries are linked to partner schools and learning centres that are integrating coconut farming into their school curriculum. Teacher at Malala Catholic Agro-Technical Secondary School, Mr Barry Buga shared that the initiative is not just about coconuts. ' It is about giving our students and their families real-life tools to rebuild and thrive. We now have a living classroom where agriculture meets opportunity.' Local educator in Kokopo District, Ms Melda Pona shared, ' Having this nursery here in Tabuna creates hands-on learning for our students and a direct link between schools and community-based agriculture. It encourages youth participation in agribusiness and promotes food security for the future.' The three nurseries complement wider efforts to develop tailored financing solutions for coconut and other key value chains. Through the AVCF Facility, farmers and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will be supported with access to finance, technical assistance, and organised market linkages. The initiative targets not only coconut producers but also stakeholders across the cocoa, coffee, and fresh produce sectors. Agri-Finance Lead at SPC, Mr Lagi Fisher said, ' This is about strengthening the full value chain, starting with the seedling and ending with export-ready white copra. It is a model that is farmer-driven, finance-enabled, and focused on lasting impact.' About the ACP Business-Friendly Programme The ACP Business-Friendly Programme is a joint initiative of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), funded by the European Union and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). It aims to improve the business environment for MSMEs across the Pacific through inclusive finance, infrastructure development, and strengthened value chain partnerships.

Paedophile who previously said 'only death will cure me' is caught once again
Paedophile who previously said 'only death will cure me' is caught once again Alan Cherry has been given a number of chances to change his ways - but was caught out yet again Alan Cherry has been jailed again A prolific paedophile who once said "only death" would cure him has been caught again. Perverted Alan Cherry is back behind bars after he was caught trying to talk to a child on the internet. The 67-year-old has been convicted of sexual offences three times and was last jailed for three years and two months back in 2021. After yet more sickening chats with an underage child came to light, the dad-of-three was arrested brought before the courts this week. Liverpool Crown Court heard on Wednesday, May 8, that Cherry had started a conversation with a 13-year-old child over the internet, inciting the child to engage in sexual activity. Cherry, from St Helens, Merseyside, was identified and officers from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit [NWROCU] attended his address on March 25 to arrest him. Cherry was given four years and two months in jail after pleading guilty to attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and for breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). He told a 13-year-old girl "that's a sexy age", reports the Liverpool Echo. Article continues below Cherry's twisted history goes back as far as 2017 when he was caught having graphic sex chats with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl. The girl - 'Chloe' - was actually a fake profile set up by an undercover police officer. Merseyside Police raided his former home where they found a stash of indecent images - including of children as young as three. The court heard undercover police officers had created a fake profile for a 13-year-old girl called Chloe in June 2017 and went into various chat rooms including KIK and Chatstep. On June 5, 2017, Cherry began chatting to Chloe over a four-day period. When told she was only 13 he responded "that's a sexy age" and told her he was 59 and they continued having chats over four days "of an overtly sexual nature". On June 8, they spoke via Skype during which Cherry stripped naked and performed a sex act in front of the camera, it was heard. Police went to his home on June 14 and indecent child abuse images were found. Cherry pleaded guilty to four offences involving downloading and possessing the child abuse images and three offences of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. His barrister, Martine Snowden, said Cherry, who at the time had no similar convictions, was a window cleaner until fracturing his spine and has been unable to work, apart from some voluntary work making furniture for a charity. She said: "He is at a loss as to why he engaged in this behaviour. He cannot really understand why he has done it. It began with an interest in adult pornography and progressed from that. He is a lonely individual who has allowed himself to progress into this isolated behaviour in secret." Miss Snowden said he was ashamed and remorseful. In 2018 Cherry was handed a three-year community order, so he could go on a sex offenders treatment programme. He sent a photograph of his penis to a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Just two years later in 2020, Cherry was back before the courts after being caught sending a picture of his penis to a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Liverpool Crown Court heard a "paedophile hunter" group had set up a fake profile on Kik Messenger with the name of 'Sarah'. Derek Jones, prosecuting, said Cherry messaged Sarah on October 28, 2019, who immediately told him she was 14. Mr Jones said they started chatting and "very soon" Cherry - who revealed his true age - asked if she performed sex acts. Cherry repeatedly asked for naked photos, despite her saying: "Not again, you're embarrassing me." Mr Jones said: "He sent a photograph of his penis to the person he thought was a 14-year-old girl." Over a "few days" Cherry repeatedly asked Sarah about performing a sex act and encouraged her to do it. He then spoke to another member of the group - with an adult profile - and arranged to meet in Liverpool. They detained him in the city centre, until police arrived and he was arrested, on November 22. He was jailed for eight months and ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. But Cherry ignored the judge's warning and in 2021 was back before the courts where he confessed to sending vile messages to two 'girls' he thought were aged 12 and 13. This time the twisted paedophile told police: "I have a problem, there is no cure for me. The only way I can be cured is if I'm not alive." Liverpool Crown Court heard how in July 2021, a member of the group "Shatter the Silence" created a fake profile of a girl called Isla on the dating app Tagged. The profile said Isla was 25, but when Cherry contacted her on July 27, she said she was actually 13. Cherry, who said he was 64, began sending messages of a sexual nature. Another member of Shatter the Silence created a second decoy profile, Darcy, who Cherry started talking to on August 1. She said she was 12 but he also sent her vile messages. Article continues below Shatter the Silence contacted another paedophile hunter group, Fleetwood Enforcers, who went to see Cherry on August 12. After streaming his confession on Facebook Live they called the police, who arrested and interviewed him. Jonathan Keane, defending, said Cherry had told him he was "sorry" and "how disgusted he is by his actions". Cherry was jailed for three years and two months.

Man posed as kid on TikTok to ask 9-year-old for ‘sexy' photos in OR, feds say
National Man posed as kid on TikTok to ask 9-year-old for 'sexy' photos in OR, feds say A 44-year-old man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to asking a 9-year-old for sexually explicit photos in Oregon, federal officials said. Getty Images/iStockphoto A 44-year-old man is going to prison after being convicted of asking a 9-year-old for sexually explicit photos in Oregon, federal officials said. In 2020, Shawn Alan Smith, a registered sex offender from Portland, used multiple fake personas online to message with a girl on KIK and TikTok, according to a May 6 news release by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon. While posing as a minor, Smith told the girl to take photos of her 'whole body' and to make them 'real sexy,' officials said. Smith also posed as a minor's dad and video chatted with the girl, officials said. He asked her to move the phone farther away from her so he could see her whole body and attempted to plan another call before the girl hung up, officials said. In 2022, officials went to execute a search warrant at Smith's apartment and saw the door was barricaded as he attempted to throw his phone and computer out of the bathroom window, officials said. McClatchy News reached out to Smith's lawyer for a statement on May 7 and was awaiting a response. On Jan. 21, he pleaded guilty to online enticement of a minor and receipt of child pornography, prosecutors said. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison with a life term of supervised release and must pay restitution to the victim, officials said.
